It's easy to show rapid weight loss in 'youngsters'. While we do treat patients in their teens, twenties, and thirties with the Simeon's Protocol, most of our patients who have the 20-40 pound loss in 40 days of treatment are in their 50's to 70's! This is an excellent program for mature adults which provides real hope and very real results!

Update: Our man, who after 3 treatment programs, had lost 98 pounds, and gone from a 42 inch waist to a 32 inch waist, AND the last time he had a 32 inch waist- he was in 7th grade: and 7th grade was about 45 years ago! This amazing man has now lost a total of 140 pounds! Talk about an amazing man and great success!

Talk about making a healthier lifestyle! This gentleman, and many of our patients have been told by friends and family they look decades younger- and healthier! That goes along with how they feel- they feel decades younger! Could you handle such a 'problem' - looking and feeling decades younger? Call and set up an appointment- you deserve a new and better you for 2012!

'Homeopathic' HCG Drops not 'Real' or 'Safe' HCG Treatment

Safe and effective medical treatment does not occur at a 'hair salon', a 'spa' or a 'gym'. The people hyping 'homeopathic' HCG drops for weight loss have not told you the whole story: homeopathic solutions contain 1/1,000 to 1/100,000 of a prescriptive medical treatment dose. The $69.95 to $89.95 they charge is for 2 ounces of mostly water.

That means the bottle of HCG you're thinking of buying does not have 125 international units of HCG in each dose, as is required for safe and effective medical weight loss for each dose of HCG. Instead there's about a single international unit (IU) of HCG in the entire bottle of 'homeopathic' HCG! Paying $69.95 to $89.95 for 2 ounces of water (for weight loss) is some very expensive water! You can stop by our office any time- we'll give you a bottle of water: for free!

We've provided a complete copy of the original Simeons Weight Loss Program, including why the specific and safe daily dose of 125 IU is required, in the PDF below. Please read it on line or print it out and read it. Please be safe: trying to do the program without the prescriptive dose of HCG could cause harm.

It gets back to an old Latin phrase: 'caveat emptor'--let the buyer be educated and beware (of people selling 'lightening' products, designed to 'lighten your wallet')! Please be patient, be safe, and read the entire original program.

In Nevada, the 'homeopathic' drops are illegal due to a number of deaths from use of the unsafe over-the-counter product. Please use caution and do not believe that a health food store, a 'spa', a 'gym' or any other place offers a medically monitored safe weight loss program with the same level of safety and success as the Simeons Weight Loss Program at Adobe Family Practice!

Weight Loss : Simeons Weight Loss Protocol

Doctor A.T.W. Simeons, who wrote about his HCG weight loss program: Pounds and Inches, in 1954, has an amazing history. Born in London, England, he received his Medical Degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. After post-graduate studies in Germany and Switzerland, he was appointed to a large surgical hospital near Dresden, Germany. He became engrossed in the study of tropical diseases, and joined the School of Tropical Medicine in Hamburg, Germany.

He worked two years in Africa, doing Tropical Medicine. In 1931 he went to India, where he found himself so amazed by the country and its' health problems, that he stayed for another 18 years! While in India, he discovered the use of injectable Atebrin for malaria, for which he was awarded a Red Cross Order of Merit. During World War II he held several posts with the Government of India and conducted extensive research on bubonic plague and leprosy control, and also built a model Leper Colony.

It was after World War II that Dr Simeons did extensive HCG studies on "the Fat Boys" of India as well as a number of morbidly obese Polish refugees, and doing so proved his theories and practice of using exacting amounts of HCG with a severely restricted diet to achieve a resolution of obesity and all its' associated health problems.

In 1949 Dr Simeons, with his wife and three sons, moved to Rome, Italy, where he perfected his protocol, and in 1954 published his findings on weight loss in a letter to the British medical journal, The Lancet. Over 100,000 people from around the world benefited from his natural weight loss protocol. After his Lancet article, health care professionals flocked to his clinic to learn, first hand, how to use this protocol. Shortly thereafter, he published his findings, which are listed below.

The Simeons Protocol is a scientific and exact program of very specific foods, fluids, and activity. The largest challenge with using the Simeons Weight Loss Protocol: when people deviate from its' exactness, both in the HCG dosing and in the diet program itself. An exact following of the program results in an average pound-a-day weight loss. Variations from the program can add weight, or result in no loss. The Simeons Protocol does what no other diet does: it Improves Metabolism, Removes Hunger, and helps Stop Compulsive Eating, Emotional Eating, and Food Cravings. Longer term, it gives the user, the added benefit, of a 'sculpted' body appearance- removing large deposits of fat, previously resistant to loss. Please click on the icon below to open the entire protocol: It's 43 pages long, but give the Protocol a 'good read'- it's well worth it!

Look at the number of people (over 550 people) who have successfully lost weight on the Simeons Protocol Weight Loss Program at Adobe Family Practice. Remember that the worst people do on the program is a half-pound a day in weight loss, while some people lose more than a pound a day at Adobe!

For over 2 years we've shown Santa Fe the perfect formula for weight loss: an average of 34 pounds lost in 40 days- and over 550 people who have been treated in the Medically Managed Simeons Weight Loss Program at Adobe Family Practice. The next logical step you need to follow is: you need to get beyond 'thinking' about better health. You need to make an appontment, you need to come in, and you need to get started on the Protocol for the best health you've had in years. It's time! You deserve this level of success!

Female Patient Loses 46.4 Pounds in 40 Days! She's Thrilled!

YES! We have an amazingly disciplined, talented, and driven patient who's lost 46.4 pounds in 40 days! This amazing lady holds both the men's and women's record for weight loss during a 40 day period! What talent! What discipline! While happy with her huge success, she wants to share a request: she'd like others to follow with her in the quest for better health. Are you up to the challenge?

When a person has 'been big for years', (as she'd been) it's a great moment of pride and success to be able to find a weight loss program which offers them the platform they require to successfully and cleverly lose weight! Many programs claim, over a year or more, they can help a person lose 30 pounds. Each of our weight loss program periods are 30 to 40 days. How much can you lose in 30 or 40 days? Can you follow the leader?

Our very smart and focused patient is leading the way, holding the torch of light and wisdom which shows others it can be done! The Simeons Protocol at Adobe Family Practice is not just real hope: it's an intelligent opportunity for real performance and real success! Our smart lady has lost the body mass of a 6 year-old boy from around her mid-section! Do you think maybe she feels lighter and happier?

If you're a big man or woman, and have been 'big for years' these glimpses of success of others can be turned in to real success and happiness for you! Call us TODAY at 505.820.0446 to schedule an initial visit for weight loss. It'll be the best 'loss' that will score you a huge 'win' you've ever experienced!

Female Patient Loses 27 pounds in 30 days!

That's right! Another of our female patients lost 27 pounds in 30 days! Yes, she looks younger, feels much better, and is ready for another treatment program!

You could join her, and see how far you can get with your first program treatment in April 2012. That's right: we're 4 months into the new year! Spring is here and Summer is getting closer each day! Come on in- you can do this: feel how great success feels (it feels thinner around the waist)! See you soon!

Female patient Loses 30 Pounds in 30 days!

Another patient finished the last shot of her 30 day program, and has lost 30 pounds! While she has 3 more days on the program, without shots, to lose additional weight, (there's 33 days to a '30' day program), losing 30 pounds in 30 days is great!

She says what every other patient says: success feels thinner around the waist!

Female Patient loses 24 Pounds in 30 days!

Why mention someone who lost 'only' 24 pounds after 30 days on the Program, when the last lady lost 30 pounds in 30 days? Because losing 6 pounds a week, for each of the last 4 weeks is VERY succesful!

Every person has some higher and some lower numbers. The 'worst' case, for people who follow the program, is a loss of about 15 pounds in 30 days or 20 pounds in 40 days. That means, that in the 'worst' case, a person loses about 4 pounds per week in weight loss.

Our 'worst' case results are the 'best' case results for some other weight loss programs. Best of all, most of our patients permenantly change their relationship with food and keep off the excess weight. Doing something successful for now is good, doing something that lasts for years is priceless! By now, you know how that feels-- it feels thinner around the waist!

Female Patient Loses 76 pounds and goes to Hawaii!

It seems, our patients have all the fun! They also have tons of success! As a Christmas gift to herself and her family, one very happy, and very successful lady finished her third program and lost a total of 76 pounds on our Simeons Protocol Weight Loss Program: so she took her family to Hawaii for Christmas!

She is several sizes smaller, and is back from her wonderful vacation in Hawaii! Yes-- she feels that good! She averaged a 25-26 pound loss in each cycle (30-40 days in each program cycle), and yes, not only is she thinner, she looks years younger. Understand: this is from a person who'd 'been big for years'.

Like our other patients- this wonderful lady found success with our Simeons Weight Loss Program. Come on in, find out how to do it: we'd love to write about you going to Hawaii after you hit a certain goal!

The Simeons Protocol Weight Loss Program has been in use for 70 years, and over 100,000 people have lost weight using this very safe and medically monitored program. Come on in for the spring: and enjoy the accomplishment of getting a new you! By now, you know how that'll feel- it feels thinner around the waist!

Male Patient Loses 46 Pounds in 40 days!

We have a very driven man who has lost 46 pounds in 40 days! Could you imagine: losing the body mass of a 6 year-old boy from around your body?

This smart and talented man does not need to 'imagine' any more, he's done it! He did share with others, that his desire to lose weight was something he 'imagined' and planned and thought of and saw himself doing each day.

He described the event as a matter of the 'imagination' as well as an event he 'engineered', or deliberately planned with precision to succeed. We called his plan 'Imagineering'. He's sharing his story here, also, to encourage others to 'Imangineer' their own success.

Can you match or beat his number? Let's say you 'only' lose 42 pounds in 40 days- would you be 'okay' with that? Get out your 'Imagineering' hat and start planning. When you're ready, call us at 505.820.0446 and let's make this happen for you too!

Why "Jumping to Conclusions" Should Not be Your Major Form of Exercise--IF You Want to Have a Longer & Healthier Life!

Telomere Site Telomere Site

Many Americans are down right lazy! They use "Jumping to Conclusions" as their major form of exercise, as long as it does not mean actually getting up off the couch, while watching television, unless it's to get something to eat. That REALLY needs to change- for the better.

Regular exercise: improves blood pressure, improves insulin sensitivity, reduces lipids (bad cholesterol and triglycerides), reduces markers of inflammation (hs-crp), and reduces abdominal fat. A team of researchers from Germany also report that exercise slows cellular aging and prolongs life!

The length of telomeres- the strands of DNA at the tips of chromosomes- regulate cellular aging. As your cells reproduce, the telomeres can shorten or lengthen. The cells throughout the body will have similar lengths to their telomeres, and if enough of the cells die and do not reproduce, you also die! This critical function of telomeres- the control of cellular aging- was honored with a Nobel Prize in 2009!

The researchers proved that in age matched controls (people who exercise versus people who do not, but are the same age), the athletes, whether age 20 or age 51, had higher activity of the chemistry that preserves telomere length; possessed longer telomeres; and lived longer, healthier lives!

In another study, published in JAMA in January 2010, the use of pharmaceutical grade EPA/DHA (2 grams taken 2x/day), the Omega-3 Fatty Acids found in 'fish oil', caused telomeres to lengthen. Teleomere length is a measure of cellular aging: the longer the telomere, the less likely a cell is to die, or to develop cancer. Combining 2 grams of EPA/DHA twice a day with 30 minutes of exercise on most days would result in a longer and healthier life!

Please note: 2 grams of 'fish oil' is not the same as 2 grams of EPA/DHA. There are two types of 'fish oil': 1) Pharmaceutical grade and, 2) 'junk oil' grade. Pharmaceutical grade 'fish oil' has 2,000 mg (2 grams) of EPA/DHA in 2 capsules. One local supermarket advertises their 'great sale' price on 'fish oil' claiming: in 2 capusules there's '2 grams of fish oil'. That much is true- it is also deceptive. In their two capsules there's only 300mg of EPA/DHA. That would mean a person would need to take 14 capsules twice a day to get 2 grams of EPA/DHA: that would be two entire 'meals' of capsules! The 'great price' isn't so 'great' when taking 28 capsules a day! Talk with us about how to get the benefits of pharmaceutical grade EPA/DHA Omega 3 Fatty Acids to get these life extending opportunities! A longer and healthier life- now that's a great plan you deserve!

A healthy activity plan, for 2011, is a plan that will help us all. The only way to have a healthy life and one with less illness and injury, is to have a better plan. Consider the wise advice above, and get some more activity into your day- stop by and we can work with you in making a simple but very effective plan which will help you!

Excess Cancer Risk with Shorter Telomeres

The progressive shortening of telomere length, with each cell division, is behind cellular aging and death. A study published in the British medical journal, Lancet, in 2007, showed that people with shorter telomeres are at a greater risk for developing heart disease and stroke. Is there also a higher risk of cancer with shorter telomeres?

From the JAMA, July 2010, in a study done in a single Italian town, researchers looked at 1,000 people who were cancer free (aged 40-79). They next measured their telomeres and followed this group for 10 years.

Compared with those people who had the longest telomeres, those people with shorter telomeres had two to three times the risk for developing cancer! These same people were also more likely to die from the cancer!

So, there's more proof: longer telomeres increase lifespan and overall health. Shorter telomeres increase death from heart attack, stroke, and various cancers. We know, for certain, that regular activity will lengthen telomeres, and that EPA/DHA taken as 2 grams 2x/day will lengthen telomeres. We now have two very good, very smart choices to act on that will reduce suffering and improve quality of life. Lets do both and get the rest of the family involved in doing the right thing also!

Sleep Duration and Effect on Weight Loss

From the Annals of Internal Medicine, October 5th 2010: Calorie restricted participants who got adequate sleep lost more fat versus muscle.

Prior studies have shown hormonal and neurologic responses to caloric restriction in weight loss. In this study, 10 overweight middle-aged adults were assigned to 5.5 or 8.5 hours of sleep daily for 14 days. Three months later they crossed over to the opposite group for another 14 day period. Fat loss, fat free body mass and several hormonal systems were monitored.

At the end of the study: mean loss of weight for each treatment was about 6.6 pounds. People who slept for 8.5 hours lost 56% of weight as fat (and 44% as muscle). Those who slept for 5.5 hours lost 25% as fat (and 75% as muscle). Since muscle weights twice what fat weights, the percentage of fat lost was over 100% more (25% versus 56% for the 5.5 versus 8.5 hours sleep), but the volume of fat lost was 200% more- recalling that fat weighs 50% of what muscle weighs.

Finally, sleep deprived participants (5.5 hours sleep/nite) developed lower resting metabolic rates (at rest they burned fewer claories). This makes sense: the more muscle mass, and less fat mass a person has, the faster they burn calories at rest. The sleep deprived people also reported greater levels of hunger and they released more stress hormone which could prematurely age every organ system in the body!

We've seen this with our Simeons patients- those who get more rest lose more body fat (inches around the waist). Sleep tight, sleep right (enough), sleep well every nite!

Weight Loss, Exercise, or Both and Physical Function in Obese Older Adults (over age 65)

From the New England Journal of Medicine, March 31st 2011: Over a 4 year course of study, older overweight adults (over 65 y/o) lost more weight, had better exercise capacity, developed fewer health problems, and had healthier lives in every aspect studied. Sounds as though the study authors listened to our conversations with our patients in the Simeons Program!

People in both groups (the study group and our patients) changed their relationship with food, in a good way, and got in regular exercise on most days each week. When people changed their previous poor relationship with foods that were not beneficial, and started eating healthier, they improved. When people engaged in non-stop activity for 30-45 minutes each day (such as walking), instead of sitting on the couch, eating junk food, watching the television and 'jumping to conclusions' as their only activity, they got better also. Most important, this study described 'debility', that is developing weakness, loss of mobility, and earning your way into a nursing home bed as directly related to being overweight, eating poorly, and being inactive.

These basics: a healthier relationship with food and regular activity most days, results in better, healthier, longer lives; and a life worth living! These benefits occur in younger people as well as those over 65, as proven in this study, as well as in the excellent outcomes we see with the Simeons Protocol. These study findings confirm why we achieve the superior outcomes that we have with the Simeons Protocol. As we say: success feels thinner around the waist!

New Diet Drug Qnexa: Is it for You?

From a study in the Lancet, published April 2011, the drug company Vivus is seeking FDA approval for a 'new drug' which is actually a combination of two older drugs. The two older drugs are Phenteramine, a generic amphetamine long used for appetite suppression in weight loss programs. The second drug is classified as an anti-seizure drug called Toprimate (trade named Topamax). The two have been used in combination for several years for weight loss, and over time, have typically shown about 1 to 2 pounds per month in weight loss.

This brings to mind a visit I had from a practitioner in Santa Fe, who was advising me on their weight loss program, and that it was 'the only FDA approved weight loss program in Santa Fe'! To which I laughed and said how funny that was. The other provider was ruffled, and said she did NOT see anything as being funny! That's when I said how absolutely hilarious her FDA claim was. I then went on to explain a point she obviously did not know: in order to gain FDA approval for weight loss, a company must prove a person could lose 6 pounds in a ...year-- that's right 6 pounds in a YEAR! That's extremely funny that anyone would brag about that claim as being a badge of honor! It confirmed this provider had no clue what FDA standards were in place regarding weight loss!

So here we have two products, one generic and the other combined into a 'new' (read expensive) product for weight loss. In the study, people on 'higher dose' lost 22 pounds in 13 months, 18 pounds in the 'lower dose' group, and 3 pounds in the placebo (sugar pill) group.

Losing 22 pounds in more than a years' time is not bad: but that's the best they did in 13 months. Our Simeons patients lose 20 to 40 pounds in a typical 40 day period. When adding up the initial evaluation costs, follow-up visits and follow-up lab tests as well as medication, this 'new' program for 'Qnexa' is about 4 times more expensive and way more time consuming than a 40 day cycle for the Simeons Protocol. When a person does our Simeons Program, they'll be down 20-40 pounds in 40 days, and looking good, while the person on Qnexa has to wait 11 1/2 months longer before they catch up to our Simeons patient. Finally, using the Qnexa for weight loss, while the pill is 'prescribed', it is NOT the same as participating in a medically monitored program, on a daily basis (which is a huge benefit for people serious about weight loss).

Worse, the weight loss drug does not change a person's relationship to food, and will likely cause a person to regain the weight. It also teaches people that 'the pill' causes the loss. Finding 'magic' inside a pill instead of stregnth of character inside of yourself to overcome a situation is night and day different and huge in outcomes 5 years out. Our patients lose weight and gain personal insight and stregnth of character. Keeping weight off is a good long-term goal, which we do with the Simeons Program. Gaining personal insight and stregnth of character is found by each of our patients in the Simeons Program and is a characteristic they each grow and carry forward to accomplish other life goals!

Who wants drag things out for 13 months when 40 days will get you to a better goal? As they'd say down South, the Simeons Protocol is mo' better!

Diabetes and Diabetics

Please read our updated section on: Diabetes and Diabetics. In this new section, we review: type 1 diabetes; type 2 diabetes; the history and social environment of diabetes; causes for type 1 diabetes; and multiple causes for type 2 diabetes; multiple treatments and a potential cure for type 1 diabetes; various treatments for type 2 diabetes; and some comical, and historical, as well as current treatments for type 2 diabetes.

We also discuss a very hopeful treatment for type 2 diabetes. Having treated several diabetics with 'The Main Event' treatment, we've had many stop needing medication, or much less medication, after losing 50 or more pounds.

Ladies: are you tired of seeing your man, with diabetes, look like he's about 10 months pregnant? Do some simple reading of our diabetic section, and make a date to bring your man in to see us. Maybe you'll want to shed a few pounds, and make it a 'couples' activity. Guys tend to do better when they have support of their mate. Feel welcome to stop by, and bathe in the success of our program. See you soon!

One More Flawed and Failed Diet Pill (Taken Off the Market)

On September 15th 2010 the Food and Drug Advisory Board met to determine the fate of the 'new' diet pill, sibutramine, (brand name Meridia). Only having been approved in 1997, we've had many patients ask for us to prescribe this medication to control hunger. Meridia is now safely OFF the market due to specific harm it posed.

Not once have we prescribed Merida. Like other drugs on the market, we viewed this as a 'dog' drug- one that will make you feel sick as a dog, or could make you dead as one that got run over by a 'Big Pharma' truck (the Big Pharmaceutical Companies, who've put drugs on the market, which they know will cause harm, but do so to get a return on the hundreds of millions in research they've done on the drug- AND the 'dog' takes a huge bite out of your wallet and fails to deliver on the weight loss as promised).

They plastered ads on TV and magazines telling prople how much they 'need' Meridia. They didn't mention the major problem they discovered in their research study. Once their study passed the FDA approval, they could care less. They also never mention, that to get FDA approval, they had to document a 6 pound weight loss over a 1 year timeframe. We never prescribed Meridia because we read the studies, and we do care! Our patients typically lose 6 pounds in one week. A year to lose 6 pounds as an FDA requirement to get approval for weight loss- that low number is laughable!

The Simeons Weight Loss Protocol has been around since the early 1940's, (70 years)

and Doctor A.T.W. Simeons treated over 100,000 people, safely, with this weight loss protocol. The protocol is simple yet it is VERY exact, and when followed with the precision demanded, patients get safe, wonderful results.

The Simeons Weight Loss Protocol has proven wonderful results (typically a 20 to 40 pound weight loss in 40 days) and it has proven safe for our patients, month after month, since January 2010. We're now in 2011, and many people have noticed some 'problems' develop around their mid-sections (after the feasting and 'over' feasting) of the holidays. Some people have gained 5 to 20 pounds over the holidays, being 'jolly'.

What's really 'jolly' is losing 20-40 pounds of excess weight and feeling Great! Nothing feels as great as success! Losing 20-40 pounds is huge! Feeling the weight off your body and looking years younger--Priceless!  Take that first step: make an appointment, stop on by and join us on the most successful weight loss program in Santa Fe!

Low Carb Weight Loss Diet vs Low fat Weight Loss Diet

In a study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, August 2010: whether a low fat diet, or low carb diet is used, over a two year period, a similar 14 pound weight loss occured.

After a successful weight loss using our Simeon's Weight Loss Program: we direct our patients to use, for maintenance, a 'low carb' life-style. Most of our patients, following this low carb intake, have better blood sugar readings, better cholesterol levels, better blood pressure, and less fatigue, (then people on low fat diets), and our patients are consistently losing or maintaining loss by avoiding carbs.

The incidence, and rates of disease, from diabetes to death, are much higher for people consuming larger amounts of high fructose corn syrup, which should be removed from the market- it's associated with every health problem Americans have. High fructose corn syrup is the poster child for all that's wrong with carbs and large amounts of artificial carbs, which never existed in nature. This is 'Big Agra' (corporate farms) at their worst, making money at the expense of American's health and welfare.

Using our positive program to limit carbs, and to reduce high-fructose syrup, in dietary intake, we find it the most reasonable of weight loss programs and life-style programs, which will result in overall better health and it will lower 'all cause' mortality rates!

Living longer, and while alive living healthier- that's the real deal! So say NO to carbs, and YES to better health! This study and others supports our wise, safe, and very successful 'pounds and inches' Simeons Weight Loss Program!

Diabetes, Over Weight, and Stroke

In a study, from September 30th 2010, in the British Medical Journal, regarding loss of kidney function, (which happens when people become overweight, have high blood pressure, and diabetes), a group of 285,000 people were looked at. People who are overweight are much more likely to be or to become diabetic and to develop hypertension. For every 30 pounds a person is overweight, they have 50 miles of blood vessels to support that fat. These miles of extra blood vessels require a higher blood pressure to push the blood the extra 50 or 100 or 150 miles to support the 30, 60, or 90 pounds of fat some people carry around.

While most people would like to die, peacefully, in their sleep, folks who've damaged their kidneys from too high of a blood pressure are at a 43% greater risk of having a stroke. You may have a spouse, or kids that care about you, but for somebody to care for a stroke patient 24/7, and to do the necessary rehab in getting them the use of their body back, once again, you would end up in a nursing home. Your family could try, but unless they're VERY wealthy, they could not do 24/7 care and provide all the physical therapy services to bring you back around.

Now, there may be alot of things you want in life, but a 43% chance of waking up to the foul odor of urine, in a nursing home, for months or years is probably seen as a curse and not anything you'd want. That brings us to our next point.

You have two choices when it comes to your health and wellness: you can plan to succeed, or you can fail to plan, which is the same thing as planning to fail. Having your blood presure rise because you're carrying around too much weight: not only will it give you a greater chance of a heart attack, it'll give you a greater chance of having that stroke, and of ending up on dialysis- every other day for life! OR, you could have a deliberate, and smart plan to get yourself in better shape, avoid the heart attack, not have a stroke, and never worry about being on dialysis every other day for life!

Our Simeons Protocol Weight Loss plan is VERY successful. Our average patient loses 20 to 40 pounds over a 40 day treatment period. Some patients who want to lose more weight do multiple treatments and when they're done-- they look and feel great! Many people who are diabetic, have thyroid problems, or blood pressure and cholesterol problems, after losing the extra weight, no longer need their medications, and no longer have their old health problems!

Please call and schedule an appointment today: look better, feel better and plan to succeed! Join our patients who've lost, together, THOUSANDS of pounds! You'll feel and look decades younger! You can do this!

Control Risks to Prevent Stroke

From the British medical journal, Lancet, a worldwide study of 3,000 patients, from 22 countries, from 6 continents; both developing and developed countries included, confirm many long standing wise and safe practices which both prevent stroke and heart attack.

That does not surprise many well read health care providers, who for the last few years have been calling a 'stroke' a 'brain attack', just as a heart attack' is thus called when the blood clot cuts off circulation to the heart. In other words, if the blood clot goes to the heart, or if it goes to the brain, tissue damage occurs. It's the same process and involves the same risk factors.

Neuroimaging was performed to determine the type of stroke: 78% were ischemic (blood clot closed off blood supply to the brain) and 22% were hemorrhagic (blood vessel burst and bled into the brain.)

Modifiable risk factors were identified to prevent stroke: high blood pressure (hypertension), smoking, low waist-to-hip-ratio (fat around the belly), unhealthy diet, lack of regular exercise, diabetes, moderate or high alcohol intake, stress or depression, and a high ratio of apoB to apoA1 lipoprotein (cholesterol) accounted for 90% of the worldwide risk for stroke.

High blood pressure alone, accounted for 52% of the risk for any stroke, and 74% of the risk for hemorrhagic stroke. You can, and need to make some very smart choices, and take better care of yourself this year. You deserve to feel better, and your family needs you to be around, and to be in better shape. Time to come in for that 'check-up' you've wanted to get done! We can do this together! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Gout and Heart Failure Risk

Gout is a genetic disorder whereby a person can not break down a specific protein found in many foods: purines. Typically found in foods such as sardines, liver, and mushrooms, it is also present in many common foods, including beer. In fact, drinking 2 or more beers doubles the risk of developing a painful gout attack. While a person can set up uric acid crystals in any joint in the body (the great toe is the 'classic' site), gout goes into EVERY tissue in the body, and this condition is a more serious problem.

By not being able to break down this protein into urea (for elimination into urine) and making water (from hydrogen atoms (H) and oxygen atoms (O) as in H2O): a person with gout instead adds the hydrogen atoms to the urea making uric acid. The uric acid will inflame blood vessel walls and greatly increases the chance of heart failure and heart attack.

In a study, from the Archives of Internal Medicine, August 9th 2010, an even greater risk of death for persons with Heart Failure was confirmed. Looking at 275,000 patients with heart failure, those with elevated uric acid (which can easily and safely be treated with Allopurinol) had a 63% higher risk of death if they did not do so to treat their Gout in their joints! That's right: gout affects joints and blood vessels!

Even worse, those who 'indulged' in things known to cause gout attacks, led to a 106% higher risk of death. It's clear as can be: Uric Acid (Gout) is a seperate and controllable risk factor for death from heart attack. What's sad is some folks do not seek care for this easy to identify and easy to treat condition. What's best: lab tests for the identification of the condition is covered by all insurance plans, and treatment is 11 cents/day!

Part of our work-up for treating people, with the Simeons Protocol Weight Loss Program, is to check uric acid, and to immediately start treatment. Doctor ATW Simeons, seventy years ago, figured out this important risk, decades before this study was done. He would treat the condition before and after his program, realizing, 7 decades ago, the risks the condition posed. That's one more reason to enroll in the smartest and safest weight loss program with a 70 year history of the greatest success of any program! Join us for the Simeons Weight Loss Program: and discover a newer, healthier you!

High Fructose Corn Syrup: A Higher Risk for Gout

We known many high risk health problems such as obesity and diabetes are directly associated with the consumption of high fructose corn syrup: now more are showing up.

We know there's a higher risk for developing a heart attack and for developing a stroke from having gout. In a study of 79,000 women (the same risk is already proven in men), in the November 24th 2010 JAMA,  the daily consumption of one high fructose sweetened drink/day increased the risk for developing gout by 74%. A second drink increased the risk of gout by 139%!

As in men, the risk of drinking soft drinks or juices sweetened with high fructose corn syrup greatly increased the risk of gout in women (and heart attack and stroke), and it greatly increased the incidence of diabetes and obesity.

It would be in the best interest of the country, from a health standpoint, that it makes sense to recognize high fructose corn syrup, as a sweetener, is poison and needs to be taken off the market! Until we can get responsible regulators to help keep Americans healthier, Vote with your dollars and your hands- don't buy sodas or juices with this toxic sweetener. The best advice: eat your calories, do not drink your calories.

That's right a 139% greater chance of having gout, stroke, diabetes, and heart attack all from high fructose corn syrup in sodas and juices! Together we can do better!

Victoza (Liraglutide) in Non-Diabetics: Weight and Blood Pressure Improve at Two Years in Extension Trial

Reported in San Diego, California, at the Obesity 2010 Symposium, in a Poster Session, the diabetic drug Victoza showed a consistent weight loss over a 52 week study, extended from the original 26 week study, published earlier in 2010 in the journal Lancet.

Victoza is a GLP-1 analog. GLP-1 is a naturally occurring human hormone which helps to maintain normal blood sugar levels. People with Type 2 diabetes have defects in their GLP-1 systems which results in inadequate insulin release, which in turn leads to higher blood sugar levels. Since human GLP-1 is broken down very quickly, the body will not accept a an injected human GLP-1, and continue to receive benefits, for other than a short time. GLP-1 analogs, like Victoza, mimic the natural activity of human GLP-1, however, they remain in the system for 24 hours, and while Victoza lowers abnormally high blood sugars to normal levels, it does NOT lower sugar to abnormally low numbers, making this product very safe for diabetics.

Early on, in research in diabetics on Victoza, they noticed a significant weight loss in their 26 week trial. The company did NOT seek FDA approval for using it for weight loss for two reasons. First, they had no longer term data (such as a one year trial) which showed continued weight loss. Second, at the 1.8 mg/day dose, the cost of Victoza is about $600/month. Insurers do not pay for weight loss alone.

The 52 week extension study used double the 1.8 mg/day dose, and while they showed consistent weight loss, they also showed it would cost $1,200/month or more to use the product for weight loss. Insurers won't pay $1,200/mo for weight loss.

Currently, on the market, also used as an 'add on' for blood sugar control, and also a very safe agent which does NOT abnormally lower blood sugar is the drug Symlin, a synthetic Amlyin medication. Amlyin is also made by the beta cells in the pancreas, as is insulin, and diabetics lose Amylin production, at the same time as they lose insulin production.

Symlin showed weight loss of about 30 pounds per month, but required injection before each and every meal. Cost of Symlin for a 30 day period is about $1,400. Compared with Symlin, Victoza is not as successful at weight loss, but has a similar high price tag. While Novo-Nordisk, the company that makes Victoza, would love to seek FDA approval for weight loss, it's also likely they will not.

Insurers learned LONG AGO that unless an American who's 'trying' to lose weight is not financially 'in the game' by paying for most, if not all of the program, the level of insincerity is HUGE! Insurers have no patience for people who've 'gamed' the system to get them to pay for weight loss, and EVERY time saw horrible, pathetic, absurdly low levels of cooperation in losing weight. On the other hand, every study, where the people pay for the weight loss on their own, those same people are financially motivated to 'get their money's worth', and the level of success in weight loss is better.

Exactly why would any reasonable person burn $1,400 for Symlin per month, and then another $400 for management of a weight loss program ($1,800), to lose 30 pounds, with 3 injections a day, every day, when the Simeons Program requires only 6 injections per week and is less than HALF the cost? You're right, that's why you've not heard more about Victoza or Symlin trying to get FDA approval for weight loss.

They've already proven they can cause weight loss, but they cost more than double what a good Simeons Program runs, and the drug companies are making money, at FULL PRICE, hand over fist in the diabetic market. They have no desire or motivation to lower the price for the weight loss therapies. Sweetest part of this story, that's best read 'between the lines' is that the study scientists are admitting the Simeons Protocol beats out what they're doing, and for less cost, and with higher rates of success. The drug companies are staying with the strategy of making large sums from the diabetic market. They're leaving weight loss to the Simeons Protocol! It's hard to get a better endorsement than that from two huge pharmaceutical companies!

Talking About Weight Loss with Patients

From a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, February 28th 2011, a Health and Nutrition Survey was used to evaluate the worth of discussing weight issues and the need for weight loss with 5,400 patients. We'll report the 'clinical findings' of the report, and then report our own clinical experience which spans 2 decades.

The questions were simple: did these individuals recall the weight discussion, and if so did they see themselves as overweight, and if so were they more motivated to seek weight loss and better health. About 45% of overweight and 66% of obese patients recalled the discussions. About 94% were likely to describe their overweight status and 97% their obese status correctly. Respondants were 6 to 8 times more likely to see themselves as overweight or obese, and were 2 to 2.5 times more likely to be interested in losing weight.

Whether we're talking about this month or 2 decades ago, people can walk in carrying twice their normal body mass and expect not to have this 'second person' strapped around their mid-section discussed, as applying to their: back pain, blood pressure, leg swelling, insomnia, sleep apnea, anxiety, depression, or diabetes. These folks are in major denial and, at first, hate us! How dare we discuss the huge white elephant in the room! We dare, and we dare to care!

Never done to offend, but definately done to help, until a dialogue is opened, people who could have a wonderful and healthy life are condemned to a life of rejection, anger, hurt and abuse and will continue with psychological and physical problems until somebody, who cares and who can give them REAL hope, intervenes.

While we intervene with genuine concern, it's meant we've been told we were 'rude' or 'inappropriate' in discussing weight. We've had people leave the practice, rather than deal successfully with getting off the excess weight. Then there's thousands of people we've helped!

There's often been the 15 year old girl who's 5 ft 4 inches and weights 240 pounds (twice her ideal body weight), who gets no invitations to the dance. She's never asked out for a date, or if she is, she's treated badly. There's also the 5 ft 4 inch 120 pound girl who has 14 invitations to the dance, and is asked out for a date often. But life is about more than dances and dates. Read on.

Fast forward a few years. A young lady is out in the workforce: she's 5 ft 4 inches and 240 pounds and is applying for a job, competing with other ladies who are 5 ft 4 inches and 120 pounds, both possesing the same skills. Many people are unaware, but companies pay a higher fee in unemployment insurance when workers claim they were 'hurt' on the job. One of the leading causes for injuries: low back injury in overweight workers. Some companies have had to close due to worker injury claims. Just as our 240 pound lady did not get a date, she's unlikely to get a job at 240 pounds. She's also more likely to be the last hired, and the first fired.

Why would any parent want to 'set-up' their child for repeated failures in life? Worse, why would they not want to help their child? This case describes some of you reading this, and it describes some of your children. Some of your children are 'only' 60 or 70 pounds overweight. Now's the perfect time to act to change their future for the better. There's no reason to delay, or to deny that extra body mass is unhealthy or even 'okay'- it's not okay, and it's going to cause a lifetime of problems.

Please read about our very successful Simeons Weight Loss Program. While we mainly treat people in their 50's-70's with stubborn, resistant weight, we also treat people in their teens to their 40's. Our success rate is wonderful and is what you and your children deserve in order to enjoy the most pain free, disease free, healthiest and most successful life!

Please read about our Simeons Weight Loss Program and become one of our many 'success' stories. You deserve this level of success, and so do your children!

Obesity a Serious Risk for Heart Failure

Obesity is a separate risk factor for heart failure! From an article published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, March 22nd 2011, 'The Effect of Obesity and Overweight on Left Ventriculatr Diastolic Dysfunction' describes how obesity damages and weakens the heart. For every 30 pounds a person is overweight, they have 50 miles of blood vessels to support that fat. People 60 pounds overweight have 100 miles of blood vessels. People who are 90 pounds overweight have 150 miles of blood vessels they must pump blood through. That's alot of pumping!

Next, all people, including overweight people have two pumps for heir blood: their powerful leg muscles and their heart. When a person gains weight, and becomes inactive, all of the pumping work is forced onto the heart.

All those extra miles of blood vessel tire out the heart and weaken it. Fat does not just 'sit there' it has one very rich blood supply! Left sided heart failure, is defined as a pumping failure of the largest chamber, located on the lower left side of the heart, and is the last to pump blood out to the rest of the body.

Associated with the condition of overweight and obesity are other risk factors weight brings: elevated blood pressure, elevated lipids, elevated blood sugar, and the release of certain cellular factors which prematurely damage and age every body system. The good news: these multiple destructive factors can be reversed with weight loss!

There is hope for people with even the worst conditions. That 'hope' requires certain exact interventions to fully evaluate and treat the whole person while reducing weight as rapidly and as safely as possible. This is one more study which shows, even people in their 70's who take appropriate actions, can improve the quality and legnth of their lives! It's never to late to do the right thing!

Obesity and Heart Disease in People Over Age 50

From the new National Guidelines published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, 2011, pages 2037-2114, which are joint guidelines from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology Foundation, whereby the key goal is to reduce obesity and overweight conditions to prevent heart disease and death.

Essentially a 1:1 relationship was found between increasing weight and increasing heart disease and death. Getting to ideal body weight, and staying active for 30-45 minutes of non-stop activity on most days (walking, swimming, biking) was a main goal. Stopping smoking, and keeping alcohol consumption to 1-2 drinks/day were also beneficial parts of the plan.

The science behind the recomendations: Recall that for every 30 pounds a person is overweight, the heart must pump blood an additional 50 miles (the 50 miles of blood vessels in the fat), with each and every beat of the heart. Next, there are only 2 pumps to move blood: 1) the heart, and 2) the huge leg muscles. When a person is inactive, that puts the strain of pumping all blood onto the heart-which is why we keep saying that an exercise program of 'jumping to conclusions' is not the same as actually getting out each day and walking for 30-45 minutes.

Finally, smoking and alcohol consumption. Smoking tobacco has never been found to do anything beneficial in over 60 years of study by the tobacco companies. The body prefers to pick-up, from the lungs, 300 molecules on toxic poisonous carbon monoxide gas, before it will pick up a single molecule of oxygen. Since the brain and heart can only exist and function with a healthy supply of oxygen, then removing that oxygen supply and replacing it with deadly carbon monoxide gas is about as 'industrial strength' stupid as is humanly possible.

Alcohol molecules break down into sugar. If you sat up for hours each night eating anything sugary, and did no activity, that 'sugar energy' will not be burned. Where does unburned sugar energy go? It all turns into fat. Since removing excess fat from one's body is a key goal, adding fat each night would not be a good plan.

The new guidelines talk also about limiting sodium consumption. A large study has been published (below, which shows a higher incidence of death in those who limit sodium intake, despite those having elevated blood pressure). For decades a 'certain group' of cardiac experts have condemned sodium consumption. The latest study puts those claims to rest, and should, eventually, lead to a revised goal not to limit sodium.

In a nutshell: you really need to do the Simeons Protocol at Adobe and get your weight and your health back to the good place it deserves to be. Do those smart things you know you need to do to get better health: the smoking needs to stop; limit alchohol intake to 1-2 drinks/day; but there's no limit on salt; and get out and enjoy a walk in beautiful New Mexico. Please click on & read the Simeons Protocol at the top of the page- there's no other program as successful! You need to do this Program for yourself and for your family.

Treating Pain and Increasing Activity

Many people experience pain as they get older. A natural reaction to pain, which is associated with a particular activity, is to avoid that activity. The 'avoidance' behavior begets additional 'avoidance' behaviors which cones down a persons world to exclude more and more forms of activity.

Eventually, a person falls to the 'least' possible activity, and essentially uses 'jumping to conclusions' as their major form of activity and exercise! National statistics show the 'average' American sitting, eating, and watching television for 2.5 to 4 hours each day! What a pathetic waste! A person goes from 'having a life' to having a miserable 'existance'.

Imagine, for a moment, when you go to a funeral, and the person delivering the eulogy says, "Jack has now passed, but he was disciplined, and watched 4 hours of television a day- as good as any American could do!" Really? When we can take a profoundly retarded person, sit them in front of a TV for 4 hours, and that same behavior describes what you imitate for 4 hours on most days, exactly what does that say about you as a person?

It's time for Americans to get off the couch, turn off the television, and reengage in life. What have you done lately? Really- what good have you done? What activity have you done? What are your 10 most recent accomplishements in the past month?

If you're a person, who because of pain, has began to avoid activity, you need to come in and get seen, get evaluated, and get treated. There are many treatable conditions that can cause pain and fatigue. At Adobe, we're expert at evaluating and treating these conditions. We'll also help you to set life goals and get you reengaged in having a life worth living.

Our Simeons Weight Loss Program is great at getting people reengaged in life and having way less weight pulling them down and causing foot, ankle, knee, hip and back pain. One man who recently lost 60 pouinds, had been told by 2 orthopedic 'experts' he needed knee replacement surgery for both knees. After the 60 pound loss, he confirmed his knees felt 'great' and he's now been more active than he'd been in the last 15 years! (To sum up his comments, 'Knee surgery, I don't need no stinking knee surgery, I got my life back instead!')

Come on down and use our Simeons Weight Loss Protocol to help make your next 15 years better than your last 15 years. The most consistent comment we receive from patients: 'I don't know why didn't I do this sooner? This (newer and healthier) version of me feels great!'

Make 2012 your year to return to GREAT! Come and work with us to recreate a life worth living! By now you know how that feels- it feels thinner around the waist!

Medically Managed Weight Loss Superior to 'Informal' Programs

From an article in the British Medical Journal, November 3rd 2012: those people enrolled in a 'formal' weight loss program lost more weight and for less cost than through non-formal weight loss programs. The numbers cited were unimpressive: the 'unofficial' programs cited 1.5 to 7 pounds; the 'formal' programs documented weight loss of about 9 pounds: these numbers cited in the study involve program treatment periods of 12 weeks, or 84 days!

Not a single arm of the 'study' involved the longest running weight loss program (7 decades) with the highest success rate: the Simeons Weight Loss Protocol. Over a 'typical' 40 day program (6 weeks), the best we've documented is 46.4 pounds lost, the 'average low', lost in patients following the program is 20 pounds; the overall 'average' lost for all participants: right at 34 to 35 pounds for those involved in following the entire program protocol each day.

The Simeons Protocol typically runs for 40 days (6 weeks), with a break (rest period) of 6 weeks between protocol treatment periods, and then the protocol can be repeated, for another 40 days (6 weeks). Over a 12 week period of 'active protocol', our 'lowest' performers lose 40 pounds: our highest performers: over 80 pounds lost, and our 'average' patients lose 65 to 70 pounds!

Seems that the folks at the BMJ missed citing the Simeons Protocol results as the Simeons Protocol  show the best medically managed and successful programs identified over the past 70 years! The Simeons Protocol numbers are 4 times (for the lowest 'average') to 7 (for the 'average') to 9 times as effective (for the highest performers) as the highly advertised 'commercial' programs cited on television and radio which are documented in the present study.

Healthcare and weight loss management should be managed by scientists (health care providers) and not promoted on television for 'do-it-yourself' weight loss programs, nor done through a 'spa' or a beauty salon. Hire us as your 'science team' and work with us to make 2012 your year to get 'hooked-up' with a scientist run weight loss program (Simeons Protocol) for the best and most successful you for 2012! It's time. Call today!

Being Overweight Contributes to Cardiovascular Risk

From the Journal of American College of Cardiology, Feb 2012: a confirmation that both increased fatness and decreased fitness contribute to the development of: Hypertension (high blood pressure), Metabolic Styndrome (Diabetes), and Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol). These three diseases are 'affectionately' described as the cardiometabolic (or preventable premature death) syndrome.

To not die prematurely, the desicions are simple: engage in 30 minutes or more of aerobic (walking) activity 5-6 of 7 days each week; eat about 1750 Kcal for women and 2000 kcal for men, which would be ONE THIRD of what a 'typical' American resturant would serve.

As we've said before: jumping to conclusions is the major way Americans get most of their 'activity'--that really needs to change- for the better. When we demand more form ourselves, and those we care about- we can achieve great goals. People will rise to the level of expectations placed upon them.

So, the question is: what are your goals? It's nearly impossible to hit the bulls-eye if you're not aiming!

How's your aim?
