Payment Options for 2018
To help you get started, especially for people who have 100 pounds or more to lose, we're offering a new payment option. Getting started can be difficult. Keeping up the momemtum over a 6 month period to lose that 100 pounds you want to lose can be challenging. But remember--we're in this together!

To help people with 100 pounds or more, and for folks on a limited budget, we're stepping up to the plate and helping you hit the ball out of the park!
Our extended payment plan option allows you to pay half of the initial 40 day protocol up front, ($385) and then pay a small amount each month for 6 months. Our extended payment plan will help people get started, stay on the program without interruption, and keep up that critical momentum which is so important when someone has 100 pounds or more to lose!

Before and After Photos You Wanted
Some of you have asked for 'before and after' photos. As you can imagine, many big people do not want a 'before' photo. Only a few people have taken photos, fewer have shared them. One brave lady took and shared her photos to inspire others.
Meet and admire "Krista" in her before and after shots. Gotta tell you--many of our patients have these same results. Check out Krista after 2 program cycles. She looks great!
Krista agrees--success feels thinner around the waist!
Man in his 50's Looking GREAT After Losing 43 Pounds!

Doctor OZ Approves Smart Use of Simeons Weight Loss Protocol!
Dr Oz- America's 'prevention doc' and health expert came out strongly in favor of using the highly effective Simeons Protocol Weight Loss Program. In his show from February 6th 2013, Dr Oz had only favorable comments for the safe, medically managed Simeons Protocol Weight Loss Program.
So, if you have been waiting for the 'big guy' to weigh in on whether the program is safe and effective- wait no longer! Stop by and let's get you started with the longest running, safest, medically managed, and Dr Oz endorsed, weight loss program!
"Newby" Patient Lost Over 23 pounds in 30 days and Then Some!
During November 2017, the patient who lost 23 pounds in 30 days was "forced" to accept a check for $200 for her success! This particular lady, who's over 50, 'worked' her program to 'max-out' her weight loss.
She drank 2 liters of fluid a day, followed the diet, and walked for 60 minutes each day. The HCG weight loss program works great for anyone who can put in the energy to get the best results. Are you up to the challenge? Do you want to work a program that works for you? It's time to stop on by and let us help get you in the best shape for 2018!
Two More Scored Great!
Another man, in his 50's, and a lady in her 50's who are both down 20 pounds in a 'little healthy competition' kept up the healthy competition. Our man lost 32 pounds and our 50 y/o lady lost 34 pounds. That's 2 folks who worked the program to give them great results!
It was rough, rough, but both got checks for $300 each!
Now's a great time to get started on a healthier you for 2018!
Reasons for Wanting "More" While Losing Weight
While the Simeons Protocol HCG Weight Loss Program is quick and efficient, many people need 'more' than to just lose weight. Weight is about genetics and lifestyle. At Adobe, lifestyle is something we also help you to evolve so that you can make sure you'll keep the weight off!
Fact is, we can't change our parents and our genetics, but we can change our present and our future in a positive way. Many people feel a need to be more strongly involved in life and to belong to something greater. A sense of belonging is critical to forming positive behaviors.
The 'typical' overweight person in America is 'functional'--that is they get up in the morning, drive to work, go through a 'regular day', drive back home, watch TV and eat a meal; watch more TV and go to bed. This 'functional' cycle is repeated. But how 'dysfunctional' are these behaviors?
To grow and to rise above our circumstances we have to be more than 'functional'. We need to plan and achieve interesting and exciting things and activities which are greater than our present circumstances. To feel joy and success we must dream great dreams and pursue those activities and victories we want to claim in this life.
To maintain a healthier weight after successful courses of the Simeons Protocol, our patients will need to have 'more' in their lives. 'More' will be identified differently by each person--but each person will find 'more' and will rise above their circumstances. We can do this together!
'Wild Ginger' Weight Loss Kills People
The 'New' Wild Ginger is so wild, it'll kill you by permenantly destroying your kidneys! The claims for weight loss with Aristolochia Fangchi --the source for Aristolochic Acid (AA) are on the internet as you read this. It's 'common' name may be explained by the fact that it smells and tastes somewhat like ginger. Beyond that, the comparison with the ginger you'd use as a herb ends.
The herb Ginger which we can all buy in the grocery store is very different. Zingiber Officinale, (ZO) the Ginger herb has been used in Asian medicine and cooking for over 4,000 years. The herb has also been documented in food and medicine in Africa, the Middle East and India for over 2,000 years. Used to treat stomach upset, nausea, diarrhea, arthritis, colds and flu as well as headaches. The safety of ZO is well established and a critical fact to understand in that ZO is not AA.
After multiple false claims and incidents of acute kidney failure in Europe, China, India, and the Balkans were likned to AA, the FDA sent out warning letters in 2001. But, as the saying goes--memory is short and fades with time. Dishonest people are currently selling AA for weight loss on the internet. The most ironic part is that in it's natural setting the plant has kidney shaped leaves.
In an article, published in 2012, (Adv Biomed Res) researchers reported a Chinese company had replaced Stehania Tetrandra with AA in their weight loss formula, resulting in multiple incidents of kidney failure. In 2013, (Annals of Int Med) investigators from London and Germany showed that products containing AA were commonly available online. Further research shows at least 105 people died of kidney failure from taking AA for weight loss in 1991--so that brings the 'cycle' for false weight loss to about every 10 years, where people die from weight loss claims assocaited with the toxic AA.
Worst part: if AA is stopped, the kidney damage continues to progress. This confirms a critical point: Another saying which applies here: good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good.
'Homeopathic' HCG Drops not 'Real' or 'Safe' HCG Treatment
Safe and effective medical weight loss treatment does not occur at a 'hair salon', a 'spa' or at a 'gym'. The people hyping 'homeopathic' HCG drops for weight loss have not told you the whole story: homeopathic solutions contain 1/1,000 to 1/100,000 of a prescriptive medical treatment dose. The $69.95 to $89.95 they charge is for 2 ounces of mostly water.
That means the bottle of HCG you're thinking of buying does not have 125 international units of HCG in each dose as required for safe and effective medical weight loss with HCG. Instead there's about a single international unit (IU) of HCG in the entire bottle of 'homeopathic' HCG! Paying $69.95 to $89.95 for 2 ounces of water (for weight loss) is some very expensive water! You can stop by our office any time- we'll give you an entire bottle of water-- for free!
Below, we've provided a complete copy of the original Simeons Weight Loss Protocol, including why the specific and safe daily dose of 125 IU is required. Please read it on line or print it out and read it. Please be safe: trying to do the program without the prescriptive dose of HCG could cause harm.
Weight Loss : Simeons Weight Loss Protocol
Doctor A.T.W. Simeons, who wrote about his HCG weight loss program: Pounds and Inches, in 1954, has an amazing history. Born in London, England, he received his Medical Degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. After post-graduate studies in Germany and Switzerland, he was appointed to a large surgical hospital near Dresden, Germany. He became engrossed in the study of tropical diseases, and joined the School of Tropical Medicine in Hamburg, Germany.
He worked two years in Africa, doing Tropical Medicine. In 1931 he went to India, where he found himself so amazed by the country and its' health problems, that he stayed for another 18 years! While in India, he discovered the use of injectable Atebrin for malaria, for which he was awarded a Red Cross Order of Merit. During World War II he held several posts with the Government of India and conducted extensive research on bubonic plague and leprosy control, and also built a model Leper Colony.
It was after World War II that Dr Simeons did extensive HCG studies on "the Fat Boys" of India as well as a number of morbidly obese Polish refugees, and doing so proved his theories and practice of using exacting amounts of HCG with a severely restricted diet to achieve a resolution of obesity and all its' associated health problems.
In 1949 Dr Simeons, with his wife and three sons, moved to Rome, Italy, where he perfected his protocol, and in 1954 published his findings on weight loss in a letter to the British medical journal, The Lancet. Over 100,000 people from around the world benefited from his natural weight loss protocol. After his Lancet article, health care professionals flocked to his clinic to learn, first hand, how to use this protocol. Shortly thereafter, he published his findings which are listed below.
The Simeons Protocol is a scientific and exact program of very specific foods, fluids, and activity. The largest challenge with using the Simeons Weight Loss Protocol: when people deviate from its' exactness, both in the HCG dosing and in the diet program itself. An exact following of the program results in an average pound-a-day weight loss. Variations from the program can add weight, or result in no loss. The Simeons Protocol does what no other diet does: it Improves Metabolism, Removes Hunger, and helps Stop Compulsive Eating, Emotional Eating, and Food Cravings. Longer term, it gives the user, the added benefit, of a 'sculpted' body appearance- removing large deposits of fat, previously resistant to loss. Please click on the icon below to open the entire protocol: It's 43 pages long, but give the Protocol a 'good read'- it's well worth it!

Lady Loses 42 Pounds in 40 Days! Smart!
We have another amazingly disciplined, talented, and driven patient who's lost 42 pounds in 40 days! Are you up to the challenge?

Another patient finished the last shot of her 30 day program, and has lost 28 pounds!
Our smart lady says what every other patient says: success feels thinner around the waist!
Female Patient loses 24 Pounds in 30 days!
Why mention someone who lost 'only' 24 pounds after 30 days on the Program when the last lady lost 28 pounds in 30 days? Because losing 6 pounds a week for each of the last 4 weeks is VERY succesful!
Every person has some higher and some lower numbers. The 'worst' case for people who follow the program is a loss of about 15 pounds in 30 days or 20 pounds in 40 days. That means, that in the 'worst' case, a person loses about 4 pounds per week in weight loss.
Most of our patients permenantly change their relationship with food and keep off the excess weight. Doing something successful for now is good. Doing something that lasts for years or for a lifetime is priceless! You know how that feels-- it feels thinner around the waist!
Female Patient Loses 76 pounds and goes to Hawaii!
It's been a few years ago, but it seems, our patients have all the fun! They also have tons of success! As a Christmas gift to herself and her family, one very happy, and very successful lady finished her third program awhile back and lost a total of 76 pounds on our Simeons Protocol Weight Loss Program: so she took her family to Hawaii for Christmas!
She averaged a 25-26 pound loss in each cycle (30-40 days in each program cycle), and yes, she looks years younger. Understand: this is from a person who'd 'been big for years'.
Like our other patients- this wonderful lady found success with our Simeons Weight Loss Program. Come on in, find out how to do it!
The Simeons Protocol Weight Loss Program has been in use for 70 years and over 6 million people have lost weight using this very safe and medically monitored program. Come on in and enjoy the accomplishment of getting a new you! By now, you know how that'll feel- it feels thinner around the waist!
Male Patient Loses 50 Pounds in 40 days!
We have a "wild" man who lost 50 pounds in 40 days! Could you imagine: losing the body mass of a 6 year-old boy from around your belly?
This smart man does not need to 'imagine' any more, he's done it! He did share with others, that his desire to lose weight was something he planned and thought of and saw himself doing each day.
He described the event as an event he 'engineered' and planned with precision to succeed. He's sharing his story here, to encourage others to create their own success!
Can you match or beat his number? Let's say you 'only' lose 44 pounds in 40 days- would you be 'okay' with that? Get out your calendar and start planning. Call us at 505.820.0446 and let's make this happen for you too!
Why "Jumping to Conclusions" Should Not be Your Major Form of Exercise--IF You Want to Have a Longer & Healthier Life!
Engaging in regular exercise improves blood pressure, improves insulin sensitivity, reduces lipids (bad cholesterol and triglycerides), reduces markers of inflammation (hs-crp), and reduces central abdominal fat. A team of researchers from Germany also report that exercise slows cellular aging and prolongs life!
The length of telomeres- the strands of DNA at the tips of chromosomes- regulate cellular aging. As your cells reproduce, the telomeres can shorten or lengthen. The cells throughout the body will have similar lengths to their telomeres, and if enough of the cells die and do not reproduce, you also die! This critical function of telomeres- the control of cellular aging- was honored with a Nobel Prize in 2009!
The researchers proved that in age matched controls (people who exercise versus people who do not, but are the same age), the athletes whether age 20 or age 51 had higher leveles of activity of the chemistry that preserves telomere length; possessed longer telomeres; and lived longer, healthier lives!
In another study, published in JAMA in January 2010, the use of pharmaceutical grade EPA/DHA (2 grams taken 2x/day), the Omega-3 Fatty Acids found in 'fish oil', caused telomeres to lengthen. Teleomere length is a measure of cellular aging: the longer the telomere, the less likely a cell is to die or to develop cancer. Combining 2 grams of EPA/DHA twice a day with 30 minutes of exercise on most days would result in a longer and healthier life!
Please note: 2 grams of 'fish oil' is not the same as 2 grams of EPA/DHA. There are two types of 'fish oil': 1) Pharmaceutical grade and, 2) 'junk oil' grade. Pharmaceutical grade 'fish oil' has 2,000 mg (2 grams) of EPA/DHA in 2 capsules. One local supermarket advertises their 'great sale' price on 'fish oil' claiming: in 2 capusules there's '2 grams of fish oil'. That much is true- it is also deceptive. In the deceiver store's two capsules there's only 300mg of EPA/DHA. That would mean a person would need to take 14 capsules twice a day to get 2 grams of EPA/DHA: that would be two entire 'meals' of capsules! The 'great price' they offer for the 'sale' isn't so 'great' when taking 28 capsules a day (heir bottle of 50 capsules does not even last 2 days)! Talk with us about how to get the benefits of pharmaceutical grade EPA/DHA Omega 3 Fatty Acids to get these life extending opportunities! A longer and healthier life- now that's a great plan you deserve!
A healthy activity plan for 2014 is a plan that will help us all. The only way to have a healthy life and one with less illness and injury is to have a better plan. Consider the wise advice above and get some more activity into your day- stop by and we can work with you in making a simple but very effective plan which will help you live a longer and healthier life!
Excess Cancer Risk with Shorter Telomeres
Telomere's exist at the end of each strip of DNA in every living cell. The progressive shortening of telomere length with each cell division is behind cellular aging and death. A study published in the British medical journal, Lancet, in 2007, showed that people with shorter telomeres are at a greater risk for developing heart disease and stroke. Is there also a higher risk of cancer with shorter telomeres?
From the JAMA, July 2010, in a study done in a single Italian town researchers looked at 1,000 people who were cancer free (aged 40-79). They next measured their telomeres and followed this group for 10 years.
Compared with those people who had the longest telomeres: those people with shorter telomeres had two to three times the risk for developing cancer! These shorter telomere people were also more likely to die from cancer!
So, there's more proof: longer telomeres increase lifespan and overall health. Shorter telomeres increase death from heart attack, stroke, and various cancers. We know, for certain, that regular activity will lengthen telomeres, and that EPA/DHA taken as 2 grams 2x/day will also lengthen telomeres. We now have two very good, very smart choices to positively act upon which will reduce suffering and improve quality of life. Lets do both!
Sleep Duration and Effect on Weight Loss
From the Annals of Internal Medicine, October 5th 2010: Calorie restricted participants who got adequate sleep lost more fat versus muscle.
Prior studies have shown hormonal and neurologic responses to caloric restriction in weight loss. In this study, 10 overweight middle-aged adults were assigned to 5.5 or 8.5 hours of sleep daily for 14 days. Three months later they crossed over to the opposite group for another 14 day period. Fat loss, fat free body mass and several hormonal systems were monitored.
At the end of the study: mean loss of weight for each treatment was about 6.6 pounds. People who slept for 8.5 hours lost 56% of weight as fat (and 44% as muscle). Those who slept for 5.5 hours lost 25% as fat (and 75% as muscle). Since muscle weights twice what fat weights, the percentage of fat lost was over 100% more (25% versus 56% for the 5.5 versus 8.5 hours sleep), but the volume of fat lost was 200% more- recalling that fat weighs 50% of what muscle weighs.
Finally, sleep deprived participants (5.5 hours sleep/nite) developed lower resting metabolic rates (at rest they burned fewer claories). This makes sense: the more muscle mass and less fat mass a person has the faster they burn calories at rest. The sleep deprived people also reported greater levels of hunger and they released more stress hormone which could prematurely age every organ system in the body!
We've seen this with our Simeons patients- those who get more rest lose more body fat (inches around the waist). Sleep tight, sleep right (enough)and sleep well every nite!
Weight Loss, Exercise, or Both and Physical Function in Obese Older Adults (over age 65)
From the New England Journal of Medicine, March 31st 2011: Over a 4 year course of study older overweight adults (over 65 y/o) lost more weight, had better exercise capacity, developed fewer health problems, and had healthier lives in every aspect studied. Sounds as though the study authors listened to our conversations with our patients in the Simeons Program!
People in both groups (the study group and our patients) changed their relationship with food in a good way and got in 30 minutes/day of regular exercise on most days of the week. When people changed their previous poor relationship with foods that were not beneficial and started eating healthier: they improved. When people engaged in non-stop activity for 30-45 minutes each day (such as walking) instead of sitting on the couch, eating junk food, watching the television and 'jumping to conclusions': they got better also. Most important, this study described 'debility', that is developing weakness, loss of mobility, and earning your way into a nursing home bed as directly related to being overweight, eating poorly, and being inactive.
These basics: a healthier relationship with food and regular activity most days, results in better, healthier, longer lives and a life worth living! These benefits occur in younger people as well as those over 65, as proven in this study, as well as in the excellent outcomes we see with the Simeons Protocol. These study findings confirm why we achieve the superior outcomes that we have with the Simeons Protocol. As we say: success feels thinner around the waist!
New Diet Drug Qnexa: Is it for You?
From a study in the Lancet, published April 2011, the drug company Vivus is seeking FDA approval for a 'new drug' which is actually a combination of two older drugs. The two older drugs are Phenteramine, a generic amphetamine long used for appetite suppression in weight loss programs. The second drug is classified as an anti-seizure drug called Toprimate (trade named Topamax). The two have been used in combination for several years for weight loss, and over time, have typically shown about 1 to 2 pounds per month in weight loss.
This brings to mind a visit I had from another health care provider in Santa Fe who was advising me on their weight loss program and that it was 'the only FDA approved weight loss program in Santa Fe'! To which I laughed and said how funny that was. I went on to explain a point she obviously did not know: in order to gain FDA approval for weight loss a company must prove a person could lose 6 pounds in a ...year-- that's right 6 pounds in a YEAR! That's extremely funny that anyone would brag about that claim as being a badge of honor! Most people have no clue what FDA standards are in place regarding weight loss!
So here we have two products, one generic and the other combined into a 'new' (read expensive) product for weight loss. In the study, people on 'higher dose' lost 22 pounds in 13 months, 18 pounds in the 'lower dose' group, and 3 pounds in the placebo (sugar pill) group.
Losing 22 pounds in more than a years' time is not bad: but that's the best they did in 13 months. Our Simeons patients lose 20 to 40 pounds in a typical 40 day period. When adding up the initial evaluation costs, follow-up visits and follow-up lab tests as well as medication, this 'new' program for 'Qnexa' is about 4 times more expensive and way more time consuming than a 40 day cycle for the Simeons Protocol. When a person does our Simeons Program, they'll be down 20-40 pounds in 40 days, and looking good, while the person on Qnexa has to wait 10 1/2 months longer before they catch up to our lowest performing Simeons Weight Loss patient. Finally, using the Qnexa for weight loss, while the pill is 'prescribed', it is NOT the same as participating in a medically monitored program, on a daily basis (which is a huge benefit for people serious about weight loss).
Worse, the weight loss drug does not change a person's relationship to food and will likely cause a person to regain the weight. It also teaches people that 'the pill' causes the loss. Finding 'magic' inside a pill instead of stregnth of character inside of yourself to overcome a situation is night and day different in outcomes 5 years out. Our patients lose weight and gain personal insight and stregnth of character. Keeping weight off is a good long-term goal-- which we do with the Simeons Program.
Who wants drag things out for 13 months when 40 days will get you to a better goal? As they'd say down South, the Simeons Protocol is mo' better!
Diabetes and Diabetics
Please read our section on: Diabetes and Diabetics. In this section we review: type 1 diabetes; type 2 diabetes; the history and social environment of diabetes; causes for type 1 diabetes; the multiple causes for type 2 diabetes; multiple treatments and a potential cure for type 1 diabetes; various treatments for type 2 diabetes; and some comical, historical, and current treatments for type 2 diabetes.
We also discuss a very hopeful treatment for type 2 diabetes. Having treated several diabetics with 'The Main Event' therapy we've had many stop needing medication or needing much less medication after losing 50 or more pounds.
Ladies: are you tired of seeing your man with diabetes look like he's about 10 months pregnant? Do some reading of our diabetic section and make a date to bring your man in to see us. Maybe you'll want to shed a few pounds and make it a 'couples' activity. Guys tend to do better when they have support of their mate.
One More Flawed and Failed Diet Pill (Taken Off the Market)
On September 15th 2010 the Food and Drug Advisory Board met to determine the fate of the 'new' diet pill, sibutramine, (brand name Meridia). Only having been approved in 1997, we've had many patients ask for us to prescribe this medication to control hunger. Meridia is now safely OFF the market due to specific harm it posed.
Not once have we prescribed Merida. Like other drugs on the market, we viewed this as a 'dog' drug- one that will make you feel sick as a dog, or could make you dead as one that got run over by a 'Big Pharma' truck (the Big Pharmaceutical Companies, who've put drugs on the market, which they know will cause harm, but do so to get a return on the hundreds of millions in research they've done on the drug- AND the 'dog' takes a huge bite out of your wallet and fails to deliver on the weight loss as promised).
They plastered ads on TV and magazines telling prople how much they 'need' Meridia. They didn't mention the major problem they discovered in their research study. Once their study passed the FDA approval, they could care less. They also never mention, that to get FDA approval, they had to document a 6 pound weight loss over a 1 year timeframe. We never prescribed Meridia because we read the studies, and we do care! Our patients typically lose 6 pounds in one week. A year to lose 6 pounds as an FDA requirement to get approval for weight loss- that low number is laughable!
The Simeons Weight Loss Protocol has been around since the early 1940's, (70 years)
and Doctor A.T.W. Simeons treated over 100,000 people, safely, with this weight loss protocol. The protocol is simple yet it is VERY exact, and when followed with the precision demanded, patients get safe, wonderful results.
The Simeons Weight Loss Protocol has proven wonderful results (typically a 20 to 40 pound weight loss in 40 days) and it has proven safe for over 1,700 patients, month after month, since January 2010 at Adobe. We're now in 2018 and some people have noticed 'problems' develop around their mid-sections (after the feasting and 'over' feasting) from the holidays. Some people have gained 5 to 10 pounds over the holidays, being 'jolly'.
What's really 'jolly' is losing 20-40 pounds of excess weight and feeling Great! Nothing feels as great as success! Losing 20-40 pounds is huge! Feeling the weight off your body and looking years younger--Priceless! Take that first step: make an appointment, stop on by and join us on the most successful weight loss program in Santa Fe!
Low Carb Weight Loss Diet vs Low fat Weight Loss Diet
In a study, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, August 2010: whether a low fat diet or low carb diet was used over a two year period, a similar 14 pound weight loss occured.
After a successful weight loss using our Simeon's Weight Loss Program we direct our patients to use a maintenance 'low carb' life-style. Most of our patients, following this low carb intake, have better blood sugar readings, better cholesterol levels, better blood pressure and less fatigue, (then people on low fat diets) and our patients are consistently maintaining loss by avoiding carbs.
The incidence and rates of disease from diabetes to death are much higher for people consuming larger amounts of high fructose corn syrup, which should be removed from the food suppy- it's associated with every health problem Americans have. High fructose corn syrup is the poster child for all that's wrong with carbs and large amounts of artificial carbs and sweeteners, which previously never existed in nature in such large quantity. This high fructose 'mess'is 'Big Agra' (corporate farms) at their worst, making money at the expense of American's health and welfare.
Using our positive program to limit carbs, and to reduce high-fructose syrup in dietary intake, we use limited carb intake as the most reasonable weight loss maintenance and life-style programs which will results in overall better health which also lowers 'all cause' mortality/death rates!
Living longer and while alive, living healthier- that's the real deal! So say NO to carbs, and YES to better health! This study and others supports our wise, safe, and very successful 'pounds and inches' Simeons Weight Loss Program!
Diabetes, Over Weight, and Stroke
In a study from September 30th 2010, in the British Medical Journal regarding loss of kidney function, (which happens when people become overweight, have high blood pressure, and diabetes) a group of 285,000 people were looked at. People who are overweight are much more likely to be or to become diabetic and to develop hypertension. For every 30 pounds a person is overweight they have 50 miles of blood vessels to support that fat. These miles of extra blood vessels require a higher blood pressure to push the blood the extra 50 or 100 or 150 miles to support the 30, 60, or 90 pounds of fat some people carry around.
While most people would like to die peacefully in their sleep, folks who've damaged their kidneys from too high of a blood pressure are at a 43% greater risk of having a stroke. You may have a spouse or kids that care about you, but for somebody to care for a stroke patient 24/7 and to do the necessary rehab in getting them the use of their body back, the person with the stroke would end up in a nursing home. Your family could try, but unless they're VERY wealthy, they could not do 24/7 care and provide all the physical therapy services to bring you back around.
Now, there may be alot of things you want in life, but a 43% chance of waking up to the foul odor of urine while you lay in a nursing home for months or years is probably seen as a curse and not anything you'd want. That brings us to our next point.
You have two choices when it comes to your health and wellness: you can plan to succeed or you can fail to plan, which is the same thing as planning to fail. Having your blood presure rise because you're carrying around too much weight: not only will it give you a greater chance of a heart attack, it'll give you a greater chance of having that stroke and of ending up on dialysis- every other day for life! Or you could have a deliberate and smart plan to get yourself in better shape, avoid the heart attack, not have a stroke and never worry about being on dialysis every other day for life!
Our Simeons Protocol Weight Loss plan is VERY successful. Our average patient loses 20 to 40 pounds over a 40 day treatment period. Some patients who want to lose more weight do multiple treatments and when they're done-- they look and feel great! Many people who are diabetic, have thyroid problems, or blood pressure and cholesterol problems find after losing the extra weight that they no longer need their medications and no longer have their old health problems!
Please call and schedule an appointment today: look better, feel better and plan to succeed! Join our patients who've lost together THOUSANDS of pounds! You'll feel and look decades younger! You can do this!
Control Risks to Prevent Stroke
From the British medical journal, Lancet, a worldwide study of 3,000 patients, from 22 countries, from 6 continents; both developing and developed countries included, confirm many long standing wise and safe practices which both prevent stroke and heart attack.
That does not surprise many well read health care providers, who for the last few years have been calling a 'stroke' a 'brain attack', just as a heart attack' is thus called when the blood clot cuts off circulation to the heart. In other words, if the blood clot goes to the heart, or if it goes to the brain, tissue damage occurs. It's the same process and involves the same risk factors.
Neuroimaging was performed to determine the type of stroke: 78% were ischemic (blood clot closed off blood supply to the brain) and 22% were hemorrhagic (blood vessel burst and bled into the brain.)
Modifiable risk factors were identified to prevent stroke: high blood pressure (hypertension), smoking, low waist-to-hip-ratio (fat around the belly), unhealthy diet, lack of regular exercise, diabetes, moderate or high alcohol intake, stress or depression, and a high ratio of apoB to apoA1 lipoprotein (cholesterol) accounted for 90% of the worldwide risk for stroke.
High blood pressure alone, accounted for 52% of the risk for any stroke, and 74% of the risk for hemorrhagic stroke. You can, and need to make some very smart choices and take better care of yourself this year. You deserve to feel better and your family needs you to be around and to be in better shape. Time to come in for that 'check-up' you've wanted to get done! We can do this together!
Gout and Heart Failure Risk
Gout is a genetic disorder whereby a person can not break down a specific protein found in many foods: purines. Typically found in foods such as sardines, liver, and mushrooms, it is also present in many common foods including beer. In fact, drinking 2 or more beers doubles the risk of developing a painful gout attack. While a person can set up uric acid crystals in any joint in the body (the great toe is the 'classic' site), gout goes into EVERY tissue in the body and this condition is a more serious problem.
By not being able to break down this protein into urea (for elimination into urine) and making water (from hydrogen atoms (H) and oxygen atoms (O) as in H2O): a person with gout instead adds the hydrogen atoms to the urea making uric acid. The uric acid will inflame blood vessel walls and greatly increases the chance of heart failure and heart attack.
In a study from the Archives of Internal Medicine, August 9th 2010, an even greater risk of death for persons with Heart Failure was confirmed. Looking at 275,000 patients with heart failure, those with elevated uric acid (which can easily and safely be treated with Allopurinol) had a 63% higher risk of death if they did not do so to treat their Gout in their joints! That's right: gout affects joints and blood vessels!
Even worse, those who 'indulged' in things known to cause gout attacks led to a 106% higher risk of death. It's clear as can be: Uric Acid (Gout) is a seperate and controllable risk factor for death from heart attack. What's sad is some folks do not seek care for this easy to identify and easy to treat condition. What's best: lab tests for the identification of the condition are covered by all insurance plans, and treatment is 11 cents/day!
Part of our work-up for treating people with the Simeons Protocol Weight Loss Program is to check uric acid and to immediately start treatment. Doctor ATW Simeons, seventy years ago, figured out this important risk decades before this study was done. He would treat the condition before and after his program, realizing 7 decades ago the risks the condition posed. That's one more reason to enroll in the smartest and safest weight loss program with a 70 year history of the greatest success of any program! Join us for the Simeons Weight Loss Program: and discover a newer, healthier you!
High Fructose Corn Syrup: A Higher Risk for Gout
We known many high risk health problems such as obesity and diabetes are directly associated with the consumption of high fructose corn syrup: now more are showing up.
We know there's a higher risk for developing a heart attack and for developing a stroke from having gout. In a study of 79,000 women (the same risk is already proven in men) from the November 24th 2010 JAMA: the daily consumption of one high fructose sweetened drink/day increased the risk for developing gout by 74%. A second drink increased the risk of gout by 139%!
As in men, the risk of drinking soft drinks or juices sweetened with high fructose corn syrup greatly increased the risk of gout in women (and heart attack and stroke) and it greatly increased the incidence of diabetes and obesity.
It would be in the best interest of the country, from a health standpoint, to recognize high fructose corn syrup is basically a poison which needs to be taken off the market. Until we can get FDA regulators to help keep Americans healthier: Vote with your dollars and your hands- don't buy sodas or juices with this toxic sweetener. The best advice: eat your calories, do not drink your calories.
That's right a 139% greater chance of having gout, stroke, diabetes, and heart attack all from high fructose corn syrup in sodas and juices! Together we can do better!
Victoza (Liraglutide) in Non-Diabetics: Weight and Blood Pressure Improve at Two Years in Extension Trial and Now in weight Loss Drug: Saxenda
Reported in San Diego, California, at the Obesity 2010 Symposium, in a Poster Session, the diabetic drug Victoza showed a consistent weight loss over a 52 week study, extended from the original 26 week study, published earlier in 2010 in the journal Lancet.
Victoza is a GLP-1 analog. GLP-1 is a naturally occurring human hormone which helps to maintain normal blood sugar levels. People with Type 2 diabetes have defects in their GLP-1 systems which results in inadequate insulin release, which in turn leads to higher blood sugar levels. Since human GLP-1 is broken down very quickly, the body will not accept a an injected human GLP-1, and continue to receive benefits, for other than a short time. GLP-1 analogs, like Victoza, mimic the natural activity of human GLP-1, however, they remain in the system for 24 hours, and while Victoza lowers abnormally high blood sugars to normal levels, it does NOT lower sugar to abnormally low numbers, making this product very safe for diabetics.
Early on, in research in diabetics on Victoza, they noticed a significant weight loss in their 26 week trial. The company has finally gotten FDA approval for weight loss! The new drug called Saxenda is about $1,000/month. Insurers do not pay for weight loss alone.
The 52 week extension study used double the 1.8 mg/day dose, and while they showed consistent weight loss, they also showed it would cost $1,000/month or more to use the product for weight loss. Insurers won't pay $1,000/mo for weight loss.
Currently, on the market, also used as an 'add on' for blood sugar control, and also a very safe agent which does NOT abnormally lower blood sugar is the drug Symlin, a synthetic Amlyin medication. Amlyin is also made by the beta cells in the pancreas, as is insulin, and diabetics lose Amylin production at the same time as they lose insulin production.
Symlin showed weight loss of about 30 pounds per month, but required injection before each and every meal. Cost of Symlin for a 30 day period is about $1,400. Compared with Symlin, ViSaxenda is not as successful at weight loss, but has a similar high price tag.
Insurers learned LONG AGO that unless an American who's 'trying' to lose weight is not financially 'in the game' by paying for most if not all of the program the level of insincerity is HUGE! Insurers have no patience for people who've 'gamed' the system to get them to pay for weight loss and EVERY time saw absurdly low levels of cooperation in losing weight. On the other hand, in every study where the people pay for the weight loss on their own- those same people are financially motivated to 'get their money's worth' and the level of success in weight loss is better.
Exactly why would any reasonable person burn $1,000 a month for Saxenda, and another $400 for management, or $1,400 for Symlin per month, and then another $400 for management of a weight loss program ($1,800), to lose 30 pounds, with 3 injections a day, every day when the Simeons Program requires only 6 injections per week and is less than HALF the cost?
While they've already proven they can cause weight loss, they each cost more than double what a good Simeons Program runs. The study scientists admit the Simeons Protocol beats out what they're doing for less cost and with higher rates of success. It's hard to get a better endorsement than that from two huge pharmaceutical companies!
Talking About Weight Loss with Patients
From a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, February 28th 2011, a Health and Nutrition Survey was used to evaluate the worth of discussing weight issues and the need for weight loss with 5,400 patients. We'll report the 'clinical findings' of the report, and then report our own clinical experience which spans 3 decades.
The questions were simple: did these individuals recall the "weight discussion", and if so did they see themselves as overweight and if so were they more motivated to seek weight loss and better health? About 45% of overweight and 66% of obese patients recalled the discussions. About 94% were likely to describe their overweight status and 97% their obese status correctly. Respondants were 6 to 8 times more likely to see themselves as overweight or obese, and were 2 to 2.5 times more likely to be interested in losing weight.
Whether we're talking about this month or 2 decades ago, people can walk in carrying twice their normal body mass and expect not to have this 'second person' strapped around their mid-section discussed as applying to their: back pain, hip pain, knee pain, blood pressure, leg swelling, insomnia, sleep apnea, anxiety, depression, or diabetes. These folks are in major denial and, at first hate us! How dare we discuss the huge white elephant in the room! We dare to care!
Until a dialogue is opened, people who could have a wonderful and healthy life are condemned to a life of physical pain, fatigue, rejection, and hurt and will continue with psychological and physical problems until somebody who cares and can give them REAL hope intervenes.
We've been told we were 'rude' or 'inappropriate' in discussing weight. We've had people leave the practice rather than deal successfully with getting off the excess weight. Then there's thousands of people we've helped!
There's been the 15 year old girl who's 5 ft 4 inches and weights 240 pounds (twice her ideal body weight) who gets no invitations to the dance. She's never asked out for a date, or if she is she's treated badly. There's also the 5 ft 4 inch 120 pound girl who has 14 invitations to the dance and is asked out for a date often. But life is about more than dances and dates. Read on.
Fast forward a few years. A young lady is out in the workforce: she's 5 ft 4 inches and 240 pounds and is applying for a job competing with other ladies who are 5 ft 4 inches and 120 pounds-- both possesing the same skills. Many people are unaware that companies pay higher fees in unemployment insurance when workers claim they were 'hurt' on the job. One of the leading causes for injuries: low back injury in overweight workers. Some companies have had to close due to worker injury claims. Just as our 240 pound lady did not get a date, she's also less likely to get a job at 240 pounds. She's also more likely to be the last hired, and the first fired.
Why would any parent want to 'set-up' their child for repeated failures in life? Worse, why would they not want to help their child? This case describes some of you reading this and it describes some of your children. Some of your children are 'only' 60 or 70 pounds overweight. There's no reason to delay or to deny that extra body mass is unhealthy or even 'okay'- it's not okay, and it's going to cause a lifetime of problems.
Please read about our very successful Simeons Weight Loss Program. While we mainly treat people in their 50's-70's with stubborn, resistant weight, we also treat people in their teens to their 40's. Our success rate is wonderful and is what you and your children deserve in order to enjoy the most pain free, disease free, healthiest and most successful life!
Please read about our Simeons Weight Loss Program and become one of our many 'success' stories. You deserve this level of success, and so do your children!
Obesity a Serious Risk for Heart Failure
Obesity is a separate risk factor for heart failure. From an article published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, March 22nd 2011, 'The Effect of Obesity and Overweight on Left Ventriculatr Diastolic Dysfunction' describes how obesity damages and weakens the heart. For every 30 pounds a person is overweight, they have 50 miles of blood vessels to support that fat. People 60 pounds overweight have 100 miles of blood vessels. People who are 90 pounds overweight have 150 miles of blood vessels they must pump blood through. That's alot of pumping!
Next, all people, including overweight people have two pumps for heir blood: their powerful leg muscles and their heart. When a person gains weight and becomes inactive, all of the pumping work is forced onto the heart.
All those extra miles of blood vessel tire out the heart and weaken it. Fat does not just 'sit there' it has one very rich blood supply! Left sided heart failure is defined as a pumping failure of the largest heart chamber located on the lower left side of the heart, and is the last to pump blood out to the rest of the body.
Associated with the condition of overweight and obesity are other risk factors weight brings: elevated blood pressure, elevated lipids, elevated blood sugar, and the release of certain cellular factors which prematurely damage and age every body system. The good news: these multiple destructive factors can be reversed with weight loss!
There is hope for people with even the worst conditions. That 'hope' requires certain exact interventions to fully evaluate and treat the whole person while reducing weight as rapidly and as safely as possible. This is one more study which shows even people in their 70's who take appropriate actions can improve the quality and legnth of their lives! It's never to late to do the right thing!
Obesity and Heart Disease in People Over Age 50
From the new National Guidelines published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, 2011, pages 2037-2114 which are joint guidelines from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology Foundation whereby the key goal is to reduce obesity and overweight conditions to prevent heart disease and death.
Essentially a 1:1 relationship was found between increasing weight and increasing heart disease and death. Getting to ideal body weight and staying active for 30-45 minutes of non-stop activity on most days (walking, swimming, biking) was a main goal. Stopping smoking and keeping alcohol consumption to 1-2 drinks/day were also beneficial parts of the plan.
The science behind the recomendations: Recall that for every 30 pounds a person is overweight the heart must pump blood an additional 50 miles (the 50 miles of blood vessels in the fat) with each and every beat of the heart. Next, there are only 2 pumps to move blood: 1) the heart, and 2) the huge leg muscles. When a person is inactive, that puts the strain of pumping all blood onto the heart-which is why we keep saying that an exercise program of 'jumping to conclusions' is not the same as actually getting out each day and walking for 30-45 minutes.
Finally, smoking and alcohol consumption: Smoking tobacco has never been found to do anything beneficial in over 80 years of study by the tobacco companies. The body prefers to pick-up from the lungs, 300 molecules on toxic poisonous carbon monoxide gas before it will pick up a single molecule of oxygen. Since the brain and heart can only exist and function with a healthy supply of oxygen, then removing that oxygen supply and replacing it with deadly carbon monoxide gas is about as 'industrial strength' stupid as is humanly possible.
Alcohol molecules break down into sugar. If you sat up for hours each night eating anything sugary and did no activity, that 'sugar energy' will not be burned. Where does unburned sugar energy go? It all turns into fat. Since removing excess fat from one's body is a key goal, adding fat (from unburned alcohol) each night would not be a good plan.
The new guidelines talk also about limiting sodium consumption. A large study has been published (below, which shows a higher incidence of death in those who limit sodium intake despite those having elevated blood pressure). For decades a 'certain group' of cardiac experts have condemned sodium consumption. The latest study puts those claims to rest and should eventually lead to a revised goal not to limit sodium.
In a nutshell: you really need to do the Simeons Protocol at Adobe and get your weight and your health back to the good place it deserves to be. Do those smart things you know you need to do to get better health: the smoking needs to stop; limit alchohol intake to 1-2 drinks/day; but there's no limit on salt and get out and enjoy a walk in beautiful New Mexico. Please click on & read the Simeons Protocol at the top of the page- there's no other program as successful! You need to do this Program for yourself and for your family.
Treating Pain and Increasing Activity
Many people experience pain as they get older. A natural reaction to pain which is associated with a particular activity is to avoid that activity. The 'avoidance' behavior begets additional 'avoidance' behaviors which cones down a persons world to exclude more and more forms of activity.
Eventually, a person falls to the 'least' possible activity, and begins 'jumping to conclusions' as their major form of activity and exercise! National statistics show the 'average' American sitting, eating, and watching television for 40 hours a week!
Imagine, for a moment when you go to a funeral and the person delivering the eulogy says, "Jack has now passed, but he was disciplined, and watched 6 to 8 hours of television a day- as good as any American could do!"
It's time for Americans to get off the couch, turn off the television, and reengage in life. What have you done lately? Really- what activity have you done? What are your 10 most recent accomplishements in the past month?
If you're a person, who because of pain has began to avoid activity, then you need to come in and get seen, get evaluated, and get treated. There are many treatable conditions that can cause pain and fatigue. At Adobe we're expert at evaluating and treating these conditions. We'll also help you to set life goals and get you reengaged in having a life worth living.
Our Simeons Weight Loss Program is great at getting people reengaged in life and having way less weight pulling them down and causing foot, ankle, knee, hip and back pain. One man who recently lost 60 pouinds, had been told by 2 orthopedic 'experts' he needed knee replacement surgery for both knees. After the 60 pound loss, he confirmed his knees felt 'great' and he's now been more active than he'd been in the last 15 years!
Come on down and use our Simeons Weight Loss Protocol to help make your next 15 years better than your last 15 years. The most consistent comment we receive from patients: 'I don't know why didn't I do this sooner?
Make 2018 your year to return to GREAT! Come and work with us to recreate a life worth living!
Medically Managed Weight Loss Superior to 'Informal' Programs
From an article in the British Medical Journal, November 3rd 2012: those people enrolled in a 'formal' weight loss program lost more weight and for less cost than through non-formal weight loss programs. The numbers cited were unimpressive: the 'unofficial' programs cited 1.5 to 7 pounds; the 'formal' programs documented weight loss of about 9 pounds: these numbers cited in the study involve program treatment periods of 12 weeks, or 84 days!
Not a single arm of the 'study' involved the longest running weight loss program (7 decades) with the highest success rate: the Simeons Weight Loss Protocol. Over a 'typical' 40 day program (6 weeks), the 'average low', lost in patients following the program is 20 pounds; the overall 'average' lost for all participants: right at 34 pounds for those involved in following the entire program protocol each day.
The Simeons Protocol typically runs for 40 days (6 weeks), with a break (rest period) of 4-6 weeks between protocol treatment periods, and then the protocol can be repeated, for another 40 days (6 weeks). Over a 12 week period of 'active protocol', our 'lowest' performers lose 40 pounds: our highest performers: over 80 pounds lost, and our 'average' patients lose 65 to 70 pounds!
Seems that the folks at the BMJ missed citing the Simeons Protocol results as the Simeons Protocol show the best medically managed and successful programs identified over the past 70 years! The Simeons Protocol numbers are 4 times (for the lowest 'average') to 7 (for the 'average') to 9 times as effective (for the highest performers) as the highly advertised 'commercial' programs cited on television and radio which are documented in the present study.
Healthcare and weight loss management should be managed by scientists (health care providers) and not promoted on television for 'do-it-yourself' weight loss programs, nor done through a 'spa' or a beauty salon. Hire us as your 'science team' and work with us to make 2018 your year to get 'hooked-up' with a medically managed weight loss program!
Being Overweight Contributes to Cardiovascular Risk
From the Journal of American College of Cardiology, Feb 2012: a confirmation that both increased fatness and decreased fitness contribute to the development of: Hypertension (high blood pressure), Metabolic Syndrome (Diabetes), and Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol). These three diseases are 'affectionately' described as the cardiometabolic (or preventable premature death) syndrome.
To not die prematurely, the desicions are simple: engage in 30 minutes or more of aerobic (walking) activity 5-6 of 7 days each week; eat about 1750 Kcal for women and 2000 kcal for men, which would be ONE THIRD of what a 'typical' American resturant would serve.
As we've said before: jumping to conclusions is the major way Americans get most of their 'activity'. When we demand more from ourselves and those we care about- we can achieve great goals. People will rise to the level of expectations placed upon them.
So, the question is: what are your goals? It's nearly impossible to hit the bulls-eye on a dart-board if you're not aiming! How's your aim?
It's JUST One Soda a Day- There Can't Be That Many Calories!
The 'average' small can of Coke or Pepsi, Dr Peper or Mountain Dew all have about 150 calories. The 'bubba' double or triple sized drinks- they have double or triple the calories- 300 to 450 calories per 'cup'. Do the math. A 'Big Mac' has about 500 calories by comparison.
That's the problem with Americans- many can not and will not do simple math to figure out why they have a problem. America is being destroyed by high fructose corn syrup and fat. Never, in all of recorded time, have so many foods been altered to have artificially high amounts of high fructose corn syrup and fat.
In the case of sodas: the 150 calories of high fructose corn syrup soda drink comes to a WHOPPING 54,750 calories consumed in one year by 'just' drinking a single soda a day. Check the math: 150 x 365= 54,750! When we divide the 54,750 by 3,500 calories (number of calories in a pound of fat), we have 15.64 pounds of human fat!
BUT the 'average' American under 50 is working on 3 cans of soda each day- or three times the calories (164,250) which is 46.92 pounds pounds of lard! So, exactly how is it that we fail to understand why Americans are gaining so much fat? Do the math.
White Rice Associated with Obesity and Diabetes
From the British Medical Journal, March 15th 2012 (White Rice Consumption and Risk of Type 2 Diabetes: Meta-analysis and Systematic Review): The rapid increase of diabetes was strongly associated with white rice intake, low activity, and obesity in 352,000 people who were studied over a 4 to 22 year follow-up period.
Want to have your risk for diabetes increase by 55%? Then eat rice. Each serving of rice per day was associated with an 11% increased risk for developing diabetes. A 'serving' of rice, being a cup, is 500 calories (equal to about 1 Big Mac), but the Big Mac has about 43 grams of carbohydrate, while the rice has 90 grams of carbohydrate. The 'typical' low activity person only burns 30 grams of carbohydrate at a meal-the rest of the carbs raises blood sugar, then raises triglyceride levels, then changes to cholesterol, then is deposited as fat on the body.
Back in the day, when people walked everywhere, they could eat volumes of rice and beans and not gain weight and not develop diabetes. These same people, back in the day, would also engage in heavy physical labor for 8 to 10 to 12 hours- burning massive amounts of fat and carbs. However, with people taking cars, buses and trains, and few people having heavy physical labor- the risk for diabetes has dramatically increased.
That's one reason we say, "jumping to conclusions" has become the number one form of exercise in America. We can and must change this for the better! We must evolve better habits to stay physically acive and mentally fit, understanding that the 'rules' have changed and we can adapt and avoid obesity, avoid diabetes, avoid cancers (which go up dramatically in the obese), and avoid heart attack and stroke (which also dramitically increase in the obese). We can do this together- but we must work together to develop an individualized plan for success!
Calcium Supplements Associated with Higher Risk for Heart Attack
From the Journal Heart, June 2012, a study of 24,000 participants confirmed that calcium supplements caused a near doubling for the risk for fatal or non-fatal heart attack over the 11 year study period. There was no risk found in incrasing natural calcium sources (meat and dairy), but supplements nearly doubled the risk for heart attack. There's a reason from other studies: health, good health, is not found alone in a pill or a tablet. It's ALL about a healthy lifestyle.
There's been about a dozen articles in professional journals citing issues with a higher risk for osteoporosis increasing due largely to inactivity and TV watching and overeating. Taking extra calcium pills increases the risk for heart attack in this sedentary group who could not pry themselves away from their 'typical' 3-4 hours/day of television watching.
TV is called an 'idiot box' for a reason-- watch enough and you turn in to a self destructive idiot. As Americans we're able to review research on humans from around the globe who get it 'right' and those who get it 'wrong'. People who live the longest are near or at ideal body weight, are physically active and typically walk no less than 1-2 hours/day. These same successful people watch virtually no television, and instead engage in activity and conversation with their fellow LIVING, breathing, humans. These healthy and wise humans eat large amounts of vegetables and remain active into their 100's.
It's time for Americans to turn off the television and reengage in living a healthy life well lived, rather than to sit on a couch for 3 to 4 hours a day eating (out of boredom) and watching a 'make believe' television world of false pictures. It's time to live again!
Weight Changes Vary After Smoking Cessation
From the British Medical Journal, July 10th 2012: After quiting smoking, about 47% of smokers overate and gained about 11 pounds after 12 months. The 'oral fixation' of putting something--anything in one's mouth to feel 'okay' (according to Dr Sigmund Freud) continues to receive support from human behavior.
The good news- there were 16% of people who quit smoking and also lost weight. This small group of successful people were either encourgaed, or 'figured it out' on their own: true satisfaction does not lay in stuffing 'something' inside oneself; rather true and even greater satisfaction resides in growing substance inside of oneself: this is a HUGE concept.
People 'crave something' to fill themself inside and feel adequate. Without a 'road-map' people lose direction and are soon lost. Instead of the 'right' thing, people settle for 'anything' and put 'anything' in their mouth while mindlessly watching TV for 40 hours a week. By searching for and accepting 'anything', these people have 'nothing' inside of them and remain empty inside! Except these folks now have developed another set of problems: being inactive, overweight, and unmotivated to change (from sitting and eating while watching 40 hours of TV each week).
Look around at the massive obesity epidemic. Everyone craves the same thing- to be 'full' inside. Many people have become confused that the 'thing' they crave is food- since some food 'tastes' good for the moment. True substance is not food, rather it is a deep and abiding knowledge with an inner satisfaction of purpose and a path to permanent growth.
There was a time when people looked up to becoming or being a part of something greater than their own being: The sense of truly belonging. For many, this emptiness is mistranslated into acquiring food to stuff oneself. Empathy, kindness, love, and a concern for greater things above oneself- these greater concepts are rarely spoken of anymore, yet they are the substance which all humans crave. They are the greater substance which we need to return to as a people.

Neilson TV Ratings and the Obesity Connection
The Nielson Ratings, which survey American and World-Wide television viewing are discouraging. But how bad is it? While watching TV most people eat- beyond reason.
Nielson reports that overall, in 2012, women watched more television than men for all age groups. So, the numbers supplied below reflect the lower (male) numbers and higher (female) numbers of hours of television watched per viewer by age:
Age 2 to 17 28 hours/week (for both sexes)
18 to 49 35 hours/week/men to 38 hours/week/women
50-59 49 hours/week/men to 54 hours/week/women
60+ 58 hours/week (for both sexes)
Americans ask why our country is in decline when the 'typical American' watches television 40 hours or more per week. It's time to turn off the TV and get back to living life.

Let's Get Up and Move!
From Diabetes Care, May 2012 (Breaking Up Prolonged Sitting Reduces Postprandial Glucose and Insulin Responses): Brief interrputions of prolonged sitting meaningly improve overall health outcomes. Advising patients (who spend most of their day sitting) has no downside to getting up and moving around at least every 30 minutes.
The mean 5 hour curves for insulin and glucose were significantly lower (by about 25%) during both the "light activity" day and "moderate activity" day as compared to the "sedentary day". In Summary: Brief periods of activity blunted serum glucose and insulin responses to meals. So, a few minutes of physical activity each hour confers metabolic benefit in otherwise "sedentary" people.
It's time to regularly get up and take a walk outside with a friend. Such physical activities are physically and mentally rewarding- by about 25% over inactive people and inactive lifestyles.
Being Overweight is a Pain in the Back
From the Journal Arthritis and Rheumatology, May 2012: a Hong Kong study of 2,600 people with lower back (Lumbar) pain had their pain worsen, as did destructive damage worsen to the discs between the bones of the Lumbar area with each additional pound of added weight. So, according to the study, being overweight really is a 'pain in the back'.
But we've concluded this same set of facts from simple observation of pregnant women over the past 4 decades. Nearly every pregnant woman complains of low back pain in the final third trimester of pregnancy. The back pain is relieved when the baby is delivered. Think of all of the "pregnant appearing" women and men who complain of back pain. It's basic physics: exagerate the lumbar curve and add 30 or more pounds of weight and the resulting excessive pressure is exerted on the low back discs. After a period, the discs become damaged from the excessive pressure and then pain begins and then worsens without any weight loss.
So, stop on by for the best weight loss program in Santa Fe, The Simeons Weight loss Protocol at Adobe Family Practice! Your back will be happy you did!
"Bad" Fats Associated with Memory Loss
From the Annals of Neurology, May 17th 2012: Dietary Fat Types and 4 Year Cognitive Change in Community Dwelling Older Women. In a study looking at 6,183 women (mean age at entry of study was 66), and looking at detailed food diaries over a 4 year period, two major factors arose which clearly affected memory.
High saturated fats (think fried foods) were assocaited with significantly worse global (overall) mental functioning. Women with the highest saturated fat intake were 60 to 70% more likely to develop poor cognition.
In contract, higher mono-saturated fats were associated with better global memory function. These women with the highest intake of mono-unsaturated fats had a 40 to 50% lower chance of poor cognition, (think avacado).
This well researched article proves that a diet rich in vegetables should be selected from those vegetables in the red, yellow, orange, and green groups. The "brown" food group- things fried and then dipped in more fat suaces will kill the heart (it's been known for years that saturated fats are associated with cardiovascular death) and it's now shown that mental decline is directly associated with a poorly choosen (high fat) diet.
Let's eat our proteins, our veggies and our fruits as our main sources of energy. We'll have better heart health and better mental health. Here's to living better!
Another "Lifestyle" Trial Proves Benefits for Diabetics!
As Gomer Pyle would say, " Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!"
From the New England Journal of Medicine, March 29th 2012: (Lifestyle Change and Mobility in Obese Adults with type II Diabetes). Looking at 5,000 adults with diabetes, we saw that 'typical calorie expenditures' translate to TV watchers versus folks with more activity. The TV watchers burned 99 Kcal/day. The 'active' group burned 881 kcal/day. A pound of fat consists of 3,500 kcal. Translated, that means that every 4 days the 'active group' burned a pound of fat while the inactive group stayed fat.
On the other hand, the inactive group could tell you who won "Dancing with the Stars" contest that week-where the only exercise by the audience at home was 'jumping to conclusions' and 'moving food to mouth'.
The study results show that when diabetics actually venture outside their homes and apartments and walk and breath fresh air-- some engage in additional outdoor activities! By getting people away from their TV they could reengage in life and have better mobility and better health!
We can all learn from the study and put down the remote control, turn off the TV (for 40-50 hours a week), quit gorging and regain a 'normal' amount of an hour a day outside enjoying fresh air and seeing other live humans outdoors. This as one more study that proves you can and should reengage in life!
You can do this: each day go out for a walk with somebody you care about. Unless there's a storm with lightening, go every day. Get out and 'lighten' up the load you're carrying. Recent studies confirm that metabolites which burn fat are only created when a person walks, jogs, or swims. Let's do this together each day!
Come on by and see how lifestyle and the Simeons Protocol can work to get you active once again in losing weight and getting in better health! You deserve to feel better!
Higher Risk of Fracture After Bariatric Surgery
From the British Medical Journal, August 7th 2012: Risk of Fracture After Bariatric Surgery in the United Kingdom: Population Based Retrospective Cohort Study. The observed trend for a higher fracture rate (osteoporosis and non-osterporosis related) was higher in 2,100 patients who underwent Bariatric Surgery (stomach stapeling, gastric bypass) at 3 to 5 years post-op (compared to 10,000 obese people who did not undergo surgery.
In short, there's a significantly higher risk of breaking back, hip and thigh bones after bariatric surgery. The first rule in medicine: to do no harm. Bariatric surgery is not "safe".

Being Overweight or Obese Harms Children
From the British Medical Journal, September 25th 2012, Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Healthy Children and its Association with Body Mass Index: Systematic review and Meta-Analysis. The detailed analysis revealed associations between body-mass index and multiple adverse cardiovascular risk factors.
According to the U.S. CDC, rates of childhood obesity have more than tripled during the last 30 years. Overweight and obese childeren are at a 30-40% higher risk for ischemic heart disease (Heart attack) and for stroke as well as for diabetes.
This is one more example where we all need to:
- Turn off the TV;
- Eat as a family at the table- not in front of the TV;
- Eat s-l-o-w-e-r and leave the table, only 85-90% 'full';
- Eat what we 'need' and not what we 'want'-out of boredom, anxiety, anger or depression.
We need to recognize some unhealthy behaviors and habits. Dysfunctional eating and watching TV 40 or more hours a week (while eating) is destroying American's sense of self, destroying people's drive to achieve great things, and is 'dumbing down' the population of the U.S.
But we can do this! We must demand more from ourselves. We can achieve greater things. We can develop new habits, engage in new activities, and develop a drive to be constantly growing. This life we have is a precious gift.
Live Longer and Live Better
We can all learn and apply some new behaviors and habits to have a healthier and happier life. We've put together some simple questions and answers to help think about a few things most Americans don't realize. Follow these ideas below after losing weight on the HCG Program, and you're going to have a much better life:
1. Of 2 things you could do to improve your memory as you age, which is better?
a. Going on regular walks for 30 minutes 5 or 6 days a week, or
b. Doing crossword or sudoku puzzles
Answer: The human brain shrinks as people age. This 'atrophy' or shrinkage is associated with loss of memory. Current studies- including those published over the last 6 months confirm what studies have for concluded for the past 4 years: physically active older people have less brain shrinkage or atrophy than do physically less active seniors. Mental activity counts- but not nearly as much.
2. Which habit will cause you to die sooner?
a. Watching TV for an hour, or
b. Smoking a tobacco cigarette
Answer: From studies published over the past year, American's lose over 20 minutes from their lifespan for every hour they watch TV, (Tobacco cigarettes shorten lifespan by just over 10 minutes). The 'average American' watches 40 to 60 hours of TV a week- that cuts a person's life short by 32 to 48 days each year- or 1 year to 18 months of life lost for every 12 years watching TV. So, turning off the TV will add 5 to 8 years to your life.
3. A physically active person, (who walks for 30 minutes on 5 or 6 days each week) can expect to add how many years to their life span?
a. more than 5 additional years,
b. just over 3 additional years
Answer: Again, from a 2012 study, people over age 75 who engaged in regular physical activity lived more than 5 additional years than their inactive counterparts. While alive, these active seniors had less health problems and led more active and happier lives.
4. People who are wanting to live longer and healthier lives should:
a. watch more 'nature' oriented programs on TV, or
b. go outside and walk in nature
Answer: From studies over the past 4 years it's been shown that those who engage in regular outdoor activities had healthier immune systems, less mental health problems, and live several years longer than their 'living room' counter parts (5 to 8 years longer).
5. For a woman over 40 who wants to improve her bone density and avoid fractures, which is the better plan?
a. Playing a sport which requires coordination such as baseball, basketball, tennis, or soccer, or
b. Regularly run or jog
Answer: From recent studies, those people who engage in sports, where coordination and stamina are required, gained more bone mass than the joggers and runners. Better yet, with improved coordination, the sports players had fewer falls and fractures.
